Grey Cube Gallery proudly presents the fourth Faces online art contest for the month of July 2023. Best of Show will be on the poster of the show. Theme:
Hidden, secretive, sexy black. Seductive, powerful, elegant black. Formal, prestigious, mysterious black. Step into the womb of night and bring on the noir! If your piece features dominant black—or simply features black in a prominent way—it is eligible!
Eligible Art:
All 2-dimensional art welcome (min size: 10″, max size: 72″) and any 3-dimensional artwork (glass/ceramic sculpture) that fits on a pedestal. Photography, fabric, and journal pages are also welcomed if prepared for hanging.

Must be original art and the artist’s own work. No reproductions/giclee prints (except for photography, digital art, or printmaking which utilizes limited edition prints due to the nature of the medium).

Call for Artists: Nature 2024
CICA Museum invites artists worldwide to participate in “Nature 2024,” the International Exhibition. We are open to photography, 2D digital art, video art, interactive art, painting, sculpture and installation art dealing nature, environmental issues, human versus nature, and/or human nature.

The artist is responsible for the shipment and delivery of his/her physical work to and from CICA Museum, as well as all related expenses. The two-dimensional work should be no larger than 39 inch (1 m) on the longest side, and the installation piece should be no larger than 39x39x79 inches (1 x 1 x 2 m, w x l x h). The work that needs to be mounted on the wall should not exceed 10 kg. Please indicate in the submission email if you are interested in exhibiting works exceeding the size/weight limit.

Artists will be notified on an ongoing basis if their art has been selected for this show. If your work is chosen to be part of the show, you will be sent a contract and inventory list.

Submission of Works:

We need 300dpi images for press releases and postcards, so if you have digital images that size, or larger, please send them.
Art created using Artificial Intelligence must include the name of the software or tool used (including version and website, if applicable), the text prompt used, and any additional info describing the process used to create the piece. We will have one wall dedicated to AI art, so your piece will be part of that wall installation.
Please let us know if your piece(s) require one or more power outlets, and the approximate power draw (in watts or volt & amps) if you know it.

Please make checks payable to Sun Gallery. Artists must identify their work with a label attached to the FRONT of their art with: your name, the title of the art piece, medium, and price. This info will be used for the wall labels. All wall-mounted work must be wired and ready to hang, matted and framed, or edges gallery wrapped and finished.
We reserve the right to refuse accepted work that arrives damaged, is too fragile to be exhibited, or was misrepresented in submission. You will need to bring or mail a completed inventory sheet with the same info as above, and a signed contract with your fees. A one-page artist statement or bio will be displayed in a show binder if you supply us with one. Sun Gallery does not provide art insurance on your work. The Gallery will take every precaution to ensure the safety of your pieces, however, we cannot be held responsible for theft or damage to your work while on the gallery premises. Each artist, if they wish to have it, needs to provide their own insurance. Sun Gallery will keep a 30% commission on any sale of artwork. No artwork will be removed from the exhibition during the show.
College and High School Entries: The Sun Gallery welcomes entries from both College and High School students. The entry fee will be waived but only one entry per student, please. College memberships are a special discounted rate at $10.
The participating artists will be providing finger foods or beverages for the event.

Field trips have become extremely popular for teachers and students because of the “STEAM” element the field trips provide (science, technology. engineering, art, and math perspective on climate change and art) School trips include a gallery tour and art project in the spacious Sun Gallery studio. The Sun also offers special in-classroom art lessons and can come into the classroom with books, art, materials & project. THEME
Urban landscapes have long been a source of inspiration for artists, as they are rich with diverse stories, cultures, and experiences. The urban environment is a tapestry of diverse colors, human connections, and the delicate balance between order and chaos. ELIGIBILITY
This call is open to artists worldwide, both amateur and professional. Work that has been selected for previous exhibits with Art Fluent will not be considered.
RULES
Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible. Open to ALL fine art mediums -now including film/video (oil, acrylic, watermedia, pastel, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, photography, sculpture, fiber, wood, ceramics, digital art, film/video).
SELECTION PROCESS
Director’s choice. Each show is curated and juried by Creative Director, Amy Matteson Neill along with an anonymous committee of jurors. Please note, there is no personal feedback given by jurors.
ENTRY PROCEDURE
Entry is done through CaFÉ, a web-based service that allows artists to upload images and organize their artwork for submissions to galleries. To apply for a call, you must leave our website and go to the CaFÉ website at www.callforentry.org where you can create a FREE artist account. You will add your details and upload your images to CaFÉ and then you can submit work to URBAN. If you have any questions, please contact us at hello@art-fluent.com we are happy to walk you through the process.
MEDIA PREPARATION
Please only submit properly cropped images of your work that are in focus. We have a free resource for artists for tips on how to get high quality images of your work. Visit www.art-fluent.com/resources for a free download. CaFÉ also offers tips on their blog which you can find here www.callforentry.org/photographing-artwork/.
All images must be in JPEG/JPG format using CaFÉ guidelines. The image size must be 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side and 400 pixels on the shortest side. Maximum file size is 5 mb.
Accepted video formats include MOV, MP4, WMV. Aspect ratio 4:3 or 16:9, resolution minimum 640×480, maximum 1920 x1080, bit rate recommended above 240 kbps, recommended frame rate 30 fps. File size must be under 100 MB. If your video work has been selected for the exhibit, we kindly request that you provide us with the file link via Vimeo.
NOTIFICATION
Notification will be done by email, everyone who submits will be notified of the juror’s selections. If for any reason you do not hear from us by the notification date, please check the filters in your email account. Notification emails are sent to the email on file with CaFÉ.
SALES
All sales inquiries will be directed to the artist’s website and/or contact information. For any artwork that is sold, the artists receive 100% of the sale.
GIVING BACK
A portion of the proceeds from the entry fees is donated to organizations committed to the arts and supporting artists.
REQUIRED FORMS
Cash awards over $600 are subject to federal income tax withholding within the United States. A W-9 form must be filled out by the winner and submitted to Art Fluent, Inc.
REGULATIONS
By entering our calls for art through CaFÉ you are agreeing to be added to Art Fluent’s email list for forthcoming artist opportunities. By submitting images, you agree that the images are your own work, nothing copied, you own all rights to the images, and you take full responsibility for the content of all images, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. The actual artwork will remain the property of the artist, our mission is to promote artists and their work. Should your work be accepted, you grant Art Fluent the right to reproduce your image on our website, on social media, and where appropriate to help promote further online opportunities. EXHIBITION FELLOWSHIP

Root Division seeks an emerging arts professional who is passionate about exhibitions programming, curatorial practice, and gallery management to fill its Exhibitions Fellowship position from September 2023 through April 2024. This fellowship will include both virtual and in-person responsibilities, in accordance with local and CDC guidance regarding COVID-19. This position will overlap with Root Division’s 2023 fellow whose fellowship period is April – October 2023.
THE EXHIBITIONS FELLOW WILL RECEIVE:
- Project stipend of $3,200 (disbursed in monthly payments with project deliverables)
- Access to participate on the Curatorial Committee for 8 months
- Access to free classes and professional development workshops
- Invaluable training and hands on experience in a dynamic visual arts non profit
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate exhibitions for the Frank-Ratchye Studio Artist Project Space (FRPS) from September 2023 through April 2024: The Frank-Ratchye Studio Artist Project Space provides a space for Root Division Studio Artists to exhibit their art to the public. The FRPS is free and open to the public during gallery hours in conjunction with the current exhibition. The fellow will primarily conduct studio visits, select artworks, and schedule monthly exhibits in the FRPS, as well as serve a support role with related tasks such as installation, image management, and copy editing.
Participate on the Curatorial Committee: Comprised of twelve prominent Bay Area curators, artists and arts professionals, Root Division’s Curatorial Committee reviews and selects the guest-curated exhibitions for the 2nd Saturday Exhibition Series. The fellow will join the Curatorial Committee for the length of the fellowship, gaining valuable experience by attending two proposal review meetings and participating in strategic planning sessions with leadership.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
Contribute writing for Root Division’s blog: In addition to coordinating artist exhibitions in the Frank-Ratchye Studio Artist Project Space, the fellow will have the opportunity to publish some art writing in the form of artist interviews, articles, or another form of their choice, to accompany the exhibitions for Root Division’s blog.
Additional Support of Main Gallery Programs: The Exhibitions Fellow will also have the opportunity to work in support of the Art Programs Manager, guest curators, installation team, and exhibiting artists to produce and market Root Division’s monthly exhibitions and public programs in the main gallery and/or online. Part of this includes the opportunity to support the quarterly jury review process, aid in exhibition design, catalog production, and technical support in the creation of 2nd Saturday exhibitions.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, curatorial studies, art history or a related field, or equivalent experience in exhibition coordination (Current students are eligible to apply).
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, writing ability and computer skills (Mac, G Suite, Dropbox)
Ability to work with various constituencies from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Studio Artists, exhibiting artists, curators, jurors, staff, and supporters of the organization. - Enthusiasm for working independently and as a team to serve the community in an inclusive, creative, and fast-paced environment
- To be available a minimum of 5 hours per week for a minimum total commitment of 20 hours per month from September 2023 through April 2024. The specific schedule will be worked out with the Art Programs Manager and will include weekly hours onsite at Root Division, 2nd Saturday receptions, 1-2 weeknights per quarter for additional program activities or meetings, and additional hours if desired.
