Director, Center Creative Workforce

Venice Arts seeks a versatile, accomplished, and committed Director for its Center for Creative Workforce Equity (CCWE), whose programs provide meaningful opportunities for creative, technical, and career pathways to Los Angeles County’s talented, low-income young people, ages 16-24.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position’s primary roles and responsibilities include: Strategic Leadership & Management Oversight

• Steward the strategic growth and development of programs.

• Manage ongoing activities, with an emphasis on the Film & Digital Media pilot, a partnership with the LA County Department of Economic Opportunity, whose cyclical programs currently include:

1. Creative Conversations, a series with sector professionals.

2. Visual Storytelling, Production, and Editing Certificate, a paid, 160-hour program building creative and technical knowledge and skills, while preparing young people for paid internships.

3. The Creative Sector Internship program, with placement opportunities provided in a variety of creative companies.

4. The Editing Pre-Apprenticeship, including education/training and apprenticeship/early career placements.

  • Assure the development and management of relationships with current and prospective employers, whether for career panels, mentorships, field trips, shadowing, or work-related placements.
  • Build the CCWE Advisory Board through quarterly meetings and off-line relationships that allow them to contribute Curriculum
  • Assure CCWE’s teaching artists understand Venice Arts’ project based, experiential pedagogy and its program-specific curricula
  • Oversee the development/refinement of curricula Supervision
  • Supervise teaching faculty, the Creative Career Counselor, and the Program Coordinator Reporting & Administration
  • Complete required reports from select funders and provide stories and images to the Director of Grants, as requested
  • Assure the efficient maintenance of all quantitative and qualitative program data, analyzing such data to assure the quality and impact of programs

Director of Operations

Venice Arts seeks a Director of Operations, accountable for organization operations and with the following key areas of responsibility:

• Organization and staff development, assuring at least annual opportunities for team development; an annual review of program goals against the Strategic Plan; and working with the Executive Director to steward updates to, or generate a new Strategic Plan.

• HR policies and practices, including, but not limited to: o Stay current with evolving practices and employment law that might inform changes to the Employee Handbook, and assuring that staff are trained or otherwise oriented to relevant changes.

  • Act as the first-line leader to review and recommend proposed changes in high-level program-based policies (e.g., youth safety).
  • Assure consistent and equitable practices in new employee recruitment and hiring, including, but not limited to: § A meaningful DEI policy and practices

§ Consistent development of position descriptions, as well as dissemination and recruitment to a broad market that will build and sustain a diverse workforce

§ Training to staff on hiring teams on ethical practices for prospective employee screening—from paper through final interviews

§ Working with the Executive Director, and others as appropriate, on points of negotiation for hire (e.g., compensation package; schedule requests; etc.)

  • Manage offer letters to prospective staff. 
  • Provide high-level onboarding of new staff (e.g., review of Employee Handbook, compensation package, payroll processes).
  • Financial systems and controls, including stewarding the annual audit; financial reporting and updates to Guidestar and other platforms; insurances (D&O, liability, WC); Financial Policies & Procedures; payroll. 
  • Facilities and organization-wide systems, including maintenance; space allocation, furniture, and equipment needs; broad, organizational software, technology, and data needs.
  • Operational oversight, including at least annual reviews of operational practices to assure they meet current and projected needs.
  • Compliance with governmental, legal, and funder requirements including, DOJ background checks; Secretary of State filings; Grants.gov and SMU Data Arts; FERPA; and document retention and destruction. 
  • Supervise admin and tech staffers, and the bookkeeper
  • Stewarding one or more organization-wide project(s) each year, time allowing, such as a data systems overhaul, website and collateral updates, and/or project management systems.

About the position:

Atthowe Fine Art Services is seeking an experienced Fine Art Rigger. The successful candidate must possess an understanding of the fundamentals of lifting and manipulating heavy, complex, and frequently fragile, objects. Equally important is an awareness of how to prevent damage to delicate surfaces during rigging and handling. The candidate must demonstrate an understanding of various material types and the dynamic forces applied by the processes of lifting and moving them. The applicant must be able to direct a crew while maintaining a safe working environment. Safety for the crew and protection of the artwork is the highest priority.

 

We are looking for an individual who is equally comfortable and professional on a construction site, inside a museum, or inside a private estate. The work environments are varied, and the challenges are specialized and unique. Familiarity with heavy equipment (cranes, reach-lifts, forklifts, gantries, etc.), as well as a working knowledge of rigging signals and terminology is required.

 

Candidate will be expected to have or acquire and then maintain a Level 2 Intermediate Rigger and Signal Person certification. They must possess a valid CA driver’s license with a clean driving record and be comfortable driving trucks and heavy equipment. They must be able to pass an STA background check. Overnight and away travel is sometimes required.

 

 

Core Responsibilities:

·         Perform hands-on lifting and manipulation of artworks and museum objects as needed for their transportation, installation, display, etc.

·         Understand and abide by professional art handling protocols and standards

·         Understand and legibly complete paperwork with high attention to detail

·         Understand typical parties and agreements involved in the transportation, handling, and installation of artworks and museum objects

·         Understand and prioritize the importance of information transfer between company departments, especially in regards to gathering and documenting useful and accurate registration information

·         Possess a solid knowledge of how to handle differing objects safely and efficiently

·         Understand the materials that make up the objects and how these materials may react with installation or packing materials

·         Complete and pass STA (Security Threat Assessment) application and verification

·         Complete and maintain safety certificates for: forklift operator, scissor/boom lift operator, fall protection, scaffolding

·         Understand and comply with PPE (personal safety equipment) requirements

·         Maintain, clean, and safe-guard all tools, equipment, and other company property, both personal and shared

 

Head Rigger Responsibilities:

·         Possess and maintain certificate as Level 2 Intermediate Rigger and Signal Person

·         Direct lifting of large objects using various lifting equipment, including gantries and cranes

·         Direct crew and maintain safe work environment

·         Protect fragile objects and surfaces from rigging damage

·         Assure that crew has needed equipment and supplies for job

·         Inspect all equipment and remove dangerous or damaged slings, tools, and other equipment

 

Typical Tasks:

·         Lift and carry artwork and museum objects properly, alone and in coordination with co-workers

·         Verify and complete paperwork, obtaining required signatures

·         Use company paperwork to record materials used and time spent on jobs

·         Safely strap and secure loads in trucks and vans

·         Uncrate and/or unpack objects using company protocols

·         Soft-pack and/or crate-pack objects using company standards

·         Calculate load weights and center of gravity

·         Identify lift points and rigging configurations

·         Perform crane signaling and/or radio directions

·         Attach and adjust slings

·         Communicate with crane operators, sub-contractors, project managers, and others

·         Review and consult pick-plans, drawings, and other documents

·         Prep, maintain and inspect rigging supplies for all jobs

Qualifications:

·         Minimum 5 years, demonstrated experience as Level 2 Rigger

Under the general direction of the Information Officer II, the Graphic Designer Ill creates and produces materials and/or publications at the highest level for print, on-line publishing, multimedia, and other mediums. The Graphic Designer Ill serves as high-level specialist responsible for the development and production of the most complex graphic design work for the CAC. The Graphic Designer Ill will be responsible for providing mission critical skilled graphic design support, client liaison, and project leadership in order to maintain the professional communications and branding standards of the agency; support the implementation of an effective public affairs program; support the implementation of legislatively mandated programs; ensure that the CAC’s revenue generating programs succeed; and effectively support the development and execution of special initiatives and agency partnerships.

Grants and Development Manager

Location: Dogpatch, San Francisco (Hybrid)  ·  Reports to: Associate Development Director

Compensation Range: $78,000 – $85,000 + benefits (full-time, exempt)  · Start date: ASAP

BAYCAT seeks a grants & development manager to successfully manage our grants portfolio and grow our contributed revenue. This person will lead our grant administration and grant writing efforts, ensuring we write compelling content, nurture funder relationships, meet all grant deadlines and fulfill grant reporting requirements. A highly collaborative role, this person will manage the grants & donor communications coordinator and work closely with BAYCAT Academy and finance departments. They will also support development-led events.

Grant Administration – 30%

Grow and diversify BAYCAT’s earned revenue through government, foundation, and corporate grants in collaboration with the grants team and key leadership staff;  
Implement giving strategies to secure new funding in partnership with BAYCAT leadership; 
Build and project manage BAYCAT’s grant calendar, ensuring that all proposals, reports and agreements are submitted on time; 
Use BAYCAT’s Salesforce CRM to ensure efficient prospect and grant information capture/reporting;
Maintain meticulous digital records of all proposals and reports in Google Suite;
Gather and analyze quantitative/qualitative program data with support from BAYCAT Studio and Academy teams, and streamline data collection workflows as needed;
Support the development of budgets and revenue projections; and
Facilitate meetings and provide regular updates on fundraising progress.

Grant Writing – 50%

Produce compelling proposals, LOIs, and reports that reflect BAYCATS vision and values;
Conduct prospect research and recommend possible funders to the grants team;
Continually evolve BAYCAT’s case for support based on industry research, hiring trends, and principles of asset framed storytelling; 
Assist development leadership with proposals and outreach for major prospective funders;
Copy edit proposals and reports written by the grants coordinator;
Maintain supplemental documents, like funder lists, staff bios and financial documents; and 
Perform other writing or editing tasks as needed in support of BAYCATs fundraising goals.

Relationship Development and Management – 15%

Oversee the Grants and Donor Communication Coordinator;
Build, maintain and steward relationships with BAYCAT funders;
Utilize Salesforce to track key relationship touchpoints and milestones; and
Proactively grow internal relationships and engage in team building activities.
 

Events Support – 5%

Assist with meeting agendas and presentations for team meetings and development events; and
Support coordination and production for development-led events.

This classification manages exhibition programs for one or more Library, Arts & Culture galleries, including securing, arranging, and curating art exhibitions, coordinating installation, maintenance and de-installation of exhibitions, and supporting the marketing of exhibitions.

 

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.

Performs professional curatorial work at the Library, Arts & Culture galleries.

Solicits submissions from artists, curators, artist groups, museums and/or galleries for potential exhibition at Library, Arts & Culture galleries, online and on-site. Reviews submissions, makes selections for exhibitions, oversees development, and supports selected curators.

Curates, designs, arranges, installs, maintains and de-installs art exhibitions. 

Negotiates and secures loans from other institutions as appropriate.

Prepares and manages exhibition budgets.

Possesses a broad knowledge of the history, trends, and techniques of visual arts in various media such as painting, photography, media arts, sculpture, etc. Maintains an understanding of the contemporary art industry and its current trends.

Understands and operates under best practices for exhibition design and planning, conservation fundamentals and art handling.

Creates exhibition related materials, including didactic text, catalogs and promotional materials, in partnership with marketing staff.

Utilizes effective project management practices to ensure efficient implementation of exhibitions. 

Maintains appropriate records of the artworks to be included in an exhibition.

Conducts outreach related to the galleries and exhibitions and seeks partnerships and opportunities for collaboration with other institutions and organizations in the region.

Supervises delivery of artwork, and the safe, careful and efficient installation and de-installation of exhibitions.

Collaborates with coworkers within the Library, Arts & Culture Department and City on other arts-related programs as assigned.
