This is an international competition and artists from around the world are welcome to submit their work. We invite artists and photographers to submit their best artworks related to the Portrait theme. A portrait may be a single person, a group, or self-portrait. A variety of interpretations of the Portrait theme can be submitted. All visual art mediums are acceptable (painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, digital, prints, fiber art, collage or installation art) except sound and video art. Winning artists will receive a digital award certificate. First, second and third place will be largely displayed with an article about the artist and their work. Development Manager
Information & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development, the Development Manager will be a dependable and highly motivated professional and will work collaboratively as a member of the Advancement team to provide administrative, strategic and project support for the Directors of Development for Major Gifts and the AVP, Development. The Major Gifts team builds strong, lifelong philanthropic relationships with high-capacity alumnx, parents, and friends to the Institute with the purpose of generating significant gifts that support the mission.
The Development Manager will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to serve, foster, and strengthen major giving for CalArts. Key responsibilities include planning and managing the administrative workflow of the team, producing written communications and reports, basic prospect research including RelSci, LexisNexis or other tools, interfacing with peer managers across other campus departments, facilitating calendaring for the AVP and major gifts team, and supporting and collaborating on the stewardship and cultivation of Leadership, Major and Principal Gift prospects, among other activities. In addition, the manager will serve as a first point of contact
for many high-level prospects and must represent the Advancement Division and Institute with poise and professionalism, including a broad knowledge of the arts, higher education, and the strategic vision of CalArts.
The successful candidate will be a digital native with facility in learning and implementing new technologies and productivity tools; have excellent writing skills related to spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure; and the ability to professionally manage communications and relationships with internal and external constituents. Essential Job Functions – Major Gifts Support
Draft, print, and mail formal correspondence including acknowledgement letters, planned giving materials, acquisition mailings, and marketing materials.
Provide copy editing support for proposals, reports, and other front-facing and internal documents
Prepare prospect collateral packets
Draft and update gift agreements and route approved gift agreements for internal signatures
For Major Gifts-related events, provide event support including tracking RSVPs, circulating guest list to team, following up, and conducting confirmation calls when appropriate
Maintain database-related projects, develop analytical systems, and generate associated reports
Collaborate closely with Advancement Services to understand and execute all data related projects and maintain and distribute metrics-related reports

Education and/or Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required
2-3 years of experience in administrative or operational roles, preferably in a development, customer relations, marketing, or PR setting, with a proven track record of success. May be supplemented by experience as an employee or volunteer for a not-for-profit institution
1-2 years of experience in non-profit fundraising setting, including confidence in communication with high net-worth prospects, principal and major donors, board members and a variety of diverse internal and external stakeholders

About this Position: The San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory (SDYS) is seeking a
part-time Teaching Artist for its ChIMES (Childhood Introduction to Music Education, with Smiles)
program. Teaching Artists teach classes for children 0-5 years old and their parents/caregivers, as
well as to groups of preschool, TK (transitional kindergarten) or kindergarten students at
contracted sites. Our team begins to build musical skills, creativity, movement, and
social-emotional skills for young children. They also build healthy attachments between children
and parents/caregivers or teachers. The interactive classes incorporate singing, dancing,
movement and hands-on play with instruments, all while paving the way for future musical
development and participation in ensemble experiences.
All SDYS Teaching Artists serve as mentors and role models, while building a place and sense of
community. We do not hire Teaching Artists just to teach music. They demonstrate respect for
young children and are committed to our core values of commitment, creativity, equity,

Artistic Responsibilities:
● Teach and lead ChIMES music classes (parent/child, preschool and/or T/K, or kindergarten).

About this Position
The San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory (SDYS) is seeking a part-time
Production Assistant (PA) to provide a welcoming atmosphere at rehearsals and to
contribute to the smooth running of rehearsals, events, and concerts. The PA will have a
can-do attitude, provide excellent customer service, and be committed to our core values
of commitment, creativity, equity, collaboration, and service.
Position Responsibilities
The Production Assistant reports to the Production and Operations Manager for the many and
varied jobs that contribute to the smooth running of rehearsals, events and concerts. The PA
is responsible for the following:
● Set up the rehearsal rooms, including chairs and stands, for all ensembles every
Saturday and/or Sunday, as well as some weekday evenings, and ensure student
safety at all times. Enlist students and parent volunteers in the setup and breakdown
when possible.
● Set up other equipment and instruments according to schedules, and move music
equipment to other buildings and spaces as needed.
● Welcome students, families, and visitors to rehearsals and/or events, and answer
questions.
● Copy, prepare, or distribute music under the guidance of the Music Librarian.
● Check out instruments or instrument supplies, process broken instruments, or receive
donations under the guidance of the Instrument Librarian.
● Handle the sale of SDYS merchandise, snacks, and instrument supplies, as needed,
and comply with SDYS cash handling procedures.
● Assist with all elements of concert production and special events, both in advance with
concert planning as requested, and at dress rehearsals and concerts, including loading
and unloading equipment and instruments, stage setup and student supervision.
● Follow and administer all Covid-19 prevention and safety measures as outlined by
SDYS for rehearsals, performances and events.
Other duties as assigned by the Production and Operations Manager.
Qualifications
● Personable, outwardly friendly, and able to deliver effective customer service to
students, parents, visitors, and artistic faculty.
● Positive attitude and proactive problem solver.
● Able to follow directions and also work independently.
● Able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds in/out of trucks and across
rooms/buildings for rehearsal and event needs.
● Availability to work Saturday and/or Sunday during the rehearsal season.

concerts and events.
● Knowledge of orchestral and band instruments is required; the ability to understand
music notation, including orchestral scores and part distribution, is strongly
preferred.
