Teaching Artist
Gallery Route One invites artists to apply and participate in the Artists in the Schools Program for the upcoming academic year.
Artists approach the programs’ theme for the year through the lens of art making and art processes. The goal is to deepen the students’ understanding of their relationship with the environment around them while exposing them to new and different art practices. Our talented teaching artists come from West Marin as well as the Greater Bay Area. In addition to supplementing art classes the artists are encouraged when possible make relevant curriculum connections with Math, Science, English etc.
Occasionally, a pairing will be made between an artist and a naturalist, writer, or poet for additional creative exploration and enrichment. Artists are sent to all the schools of West Marin serving TK- 12th grades.
The culmination of the program ends with a wonderful exhibition of all the students’ artwork at Toby’s Art Gallery in Point Reyes Station in June.
Traveling to schools in West Marin is required.
Visual Artists, Poets, Writers, Storytellers, Performance and Musicians encouraged to apply!
2024 California Documentary Project Grants
California Stories, National Audiences
California Humanities invites applications for the 2024 California Documentary Project (CDP) grant program for film, audio, and interactive media projects that explore California in all its complexity.
Funding is available in two categories:
- Research and Development Grants up to $15,000
- Production Grants up to $50,000
California? It’s complicated, almost 40 million people and 40 million stories. California Documentary Project (CDP) grants support nonfiction film, audio, and digital media productions that explore California subjects and issues and tell stories from every corner of the state. We seek compelling projects that bring new and previously unheard perspectives to light; reveal the breadth and range of California’s cultures, peoples, and histories; and use the humanities to provide context, depth, and perspective. Projects should be accessible to both California and national audiences through broadcast, streaming, festivals, public and educational screenings and presentations, and other forms of distribution. Eligible formats include, but are not limited to, features, shorts, podcasts, web series, interactive media, and more. California residency is not required to apply.
We are particularly interested in supporting stories and projects from communities, regions, and individuals whose voices and perspectives have traditionally been excluded from the broader California narrative. As we center equity in the work of California Humanities, we encourage stories that focus on and highlight Indigenous and Native American experiences in California.
For grant guidelines, application instructions, and a list of previously awarded projects please visit the California Documentary Project grants page.
Register here to attend a free online informational workshop on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 11:00 am PT on how to apply to the California Documentary Project grant. Please review the grant guidelines and FAQ in advance and bring your questions with you!

Echelon at Television Center Public Art RFQ
A new creative workspace located in the heart of Hollywood and set in the 1920’s Art Deco splendor of the original Technicolor building provides 200,000 RSF of creative workspace, production studios, edit suites, writer’s rooms, and a production stage. Working with the City of Los Angeles, the project is committed to providing artwork across the project to fulfill a total budget of $850,000. This budget will include the commission of four pieces of artwork as well as fabrication, engineering, installation, consulting and conservation and maintenance report costs. Artwork for Echelon Studios at Television City presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the artistic vibrancy of Hollywood. Each piece will be curated to create a distinct experience, while collectively, the art installations will serve as placemaking devices that enhance the campus and integrate seamlessly into Hollywood’s cultural fabric.
This call for artists will reach out for four different project opportunities across the project site. The aim for all four artwork opportunities is to create world-class public artworks that are designed to engage the community, and showcase Hollywood’s reputation as a vibrant, creative hub and enhance the various civic and public spaces. Selected artists and artist teams will be asked to demonstrate creative applications to support the building and activation of a community interconnected by its public art.
