Hot Summer City: Street Photography Exhibition w/ Special Guest Curator Rafael Fuchs
Hot Summer City: Street Photography Exhibition will be held in the cultural heart of Pittsburgh, PA: Lawrenceville. Home to celebrated artists, most notably Andy Warhol, the former steel making capital is now referred to as “The Paris of Appalachia” due to its deep connections to the arts and world-class museums.
Vestige Concept Gallery is seeking street photography that captures the essence of urban life in the summertime. Summer is an intense and multifaceted season that brings joy, freedom, and social opportunities. When we think of representing the season through photography we envision intense warmth, deep shadows, and/or depictions of late nights, summer fun, and enjoying being outdoors. We are also interested in work that captures the dark side of summer: oppressive heat; urban blight; and the struggle to keep cool, hustle, and survive. The show will be Special Guest Curated by Rafael Fuchs.
About the Curator:
Rafael Fuchs is a Brooklyn-based artist, photographer, director, curator and producer. He has earned his place as one of the most important photographers of his generation.
A recipient of many awards, Rafael has captured portraits and images of some of the most influential figures of the past 30 years. His images have fronted magazine covers, and have become part of distinctive private collections and Museums around the globe, including The National Portrait Gallery in London. (Portraits of JK Rowling and Emily Watson.)
In 2012 Rafael launched Fuchs Projects art space, with its headquarters in Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY. This open creative lab features his works, as well as artworks of many other emerging artists. It has also been featured in numerous art fairs, such as Scope Miami, Art Market Hamptons, Select NY, Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam, Art Karlsruhe Germany, and more.
Rafael Fuchs’ work is diverse, and includes portraits, fashion, personal social documentary, and street photography. He published 12 books including:

ELIGIBILITY
Street Photography Exhibition is open to any artists over age 18, Internationally. International- please see note below.
Work should ideally have been created in the last three years, and should encompass the theme of the show.
Work should ideally fall into a standard print size for photography, such as 10″x 13″, or 11″ x14 “, however, we accept all sizes. It is important to note the turnaround time (for printing, shipping, etc.), if accepted.
Work must not have been previously displayed in a Vestige Concept Gallery exhibit.
Work must be for sale.
Work should be ready to print, ready to frame (or already framed), and ready to ship, if accepted. The Gallery adheres to tight monthly exhibit deadlines.
ENTRY PROCEDURE
Entries and fees will be processed only through www.callforentry.org
Applicants may submit up to 2 entries. These two entries are included in the $25 application fee.
An additional charge of $5 per entry is charged for any additional submissions, up to 8 total.
Application deadline is Sunday, June 20th, 2021
Artists will be notified of acceptance by midnight, Monday June 21st, 2021
Shipped works of art must arrive no later than Thursday, July 8th, 2021.
CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE
Artists accepted into the show must send an email confirmation upon acceptance, plus provide a high resolution 300 dpi image of the accepted piece(s) along with an artist pic, short bio, and web/social links (if applicable). These items are necessary for the Online version of the show. By submitting this information, you provide Vestige Concept Gallery all rights to post the work on their gallery website and within a paper brochure for the event. (Please also see our legal agreement for use of images and other material for promotional purposes).
Accepted artwork must be the actual artwork as seen in the submitted images. No substitutions. Vestige Concept Gallery reserves the right to pull any artwork that differs from the images in the accepted submission.
Accepted artwork listed for sale must be for the price listed in the submission. No price changes.
Vestige Concept Gallery will retain a 25% commission for any artwork sold, please factor this into your pricing.
Artists are responsible for shipping & optional shipping insurance to and from Vestige Concept Gallery. A prepaid return shipping label must be included. Fedex or UPS only. No cash or checks.
Shipped work must be sent in reusable, sturdy boxes and marked with your name. No loose peanuts. Artwork framed with glass is the responsibility of the artist. Artwork with glass that arrives in broken condition may be pulled from the event if artist is unable to remedy the issue.
Late or damaged work will not be exhibited.
Art damaged in transit is solely the responsibility of the artist and shipper. Artwork may also be hand-delivered, if applicable.
Wall pieces MUST be securely wired, framed, and properly prepared for display. Painted edges and/or a clean-edge gallery wrap is ok. Medium/large sawtooth hangers are acceptable for photography.
2D Work must not exceed 30 lbs, including frame.

Studio Manager
Job Duties
Geoffrey Biddle, a documentary photographer based in Berkeley, CA is seeking a Studio Manager / EA to support his diverse and expanding responsibilities. This position is full time, temp to long-term, pending a three-month trial period. The position is a hybrid role, providing professional support to a working photographer with a deep historical archive, and ancillary duties that help the studio run on a day to day basis (akin to an office manager or EA). The Studio Manager will be reporting directly to Biddle as well as the Studio’s longtime New York-based studio manager, and Biddle’s daughter and collaborator, Eve Biddle. The Studio Manager will have a strong role in helping to shape administrative, strategic, and operational processes.
The ideal candidate for this position has “an eye,” in the artistic sense, and that eye is ideally backed up with curatorial training and experience. They aspire to work with photographs to communicate ideas, and can confidently communicate those ideas. The candidate possesses a service-oriented personality with exceptional and sensitive communication skills. They will be conscientious, meticulous, and organized in managing a broad spectrum of responsibilities — both large and small. This position provides artistic support; administrative support; office management; archive/database management; and meeting, event, and travel coordination.
We are seeking a proactive, hardworking, and experienced person to join our team. Sensitivity to confidential matters is mandatory and an NDA is required. This is a FT position, mostly daytime hours, but some weekends and evenings may be required. A mix of in-person and remote as required (with COVID protocols adhered to).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
ARTISTIC & ARCHIVAL:
With guidance from Biddle and/or Archivist in NYC, managing the inventory and archiving of Biddle’s artwork, including prints, contact sheets, and originals, and helping to create and maintain an inventory and archive (maintaining a FileMaker database, updating archive and Lightroom with tags and new prints, digital asset management system, and inventory management system), and all ancillary duties including, but not limited to, logistics, licensing, tracking, communication, technical support, and technology R&D.
Facilitating the artist’s day-to-day and long term work and personal/professional/creative time by keeping the studio running smoothly on a daily basis (including, at times, running errands or EA/PA work).
Liaising with outside vendors and Biddle’s longtime printer, Ryan Speth.
ADMINISTRATIVE, PROJECT & OFFICE MANAGEMENT:
Managing the day-to-day administrative duties of Biddle. Manage the shared calendar, including scheduling meetings (in person and via Zoom/phone), private/family appointments, travel arrangements, conferences, and social events. Track time spent on various projects.
Processing incoming correspondence and invoices. Provide general support by sorting, scanning, and following up with appropriate action. Address questions regarding payments and keep records of transactions.
Completing office tasks including faxing, emailing, filing, mailing and deliveries. Will include tasks related to his family responsibilities.
Preparing for meetings by generating agendas, researching attendees, taking notes (as required), providing follow-up summaries, ordering lunch, etc.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date hardcopy and electronic files.
Coordinating ongoing maintenance of office space and acting as liaison with building management on any office-related issues.
Coordinating with outsourced IT consultants on technology-related issues.
COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIPS:
Establishing and maintaining positive relationships on Biddle’s behalf as it pertains to his work (with particular attention to California galleries and institutions).
Helping to make introductions to the work to individuals and institutions in order to increase visibility and placement of the work with dealers, collectors, galleries, and institutions, as well as publication in magazines and/or archival books or collections.
Managing external contacts, proactively understanding who they are and keeping track of communications and contact information.
Maintaining and tracking Biddle’s professional website updates, including press coverage and publications, as well as monitoring and maintaining his larger web presence (as needed, and with the support of other staff).
Responding to and handling confidential and sensitive information with poise, professionalism, and diplomacy.
Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 2 years of experience supporting an artist, photographer, or similar preferred.
Professional or academic experience in Photography Studio management, Curatorial/Institutional Art settings (museum, gallery, or similar), or Art Historian preferred.
High proficiency with office applications including G-Suite, Word, and Excel; ability to learn and guide new platforms, organize digital data, and oversee the organization’s other management systems including password software required.
Lightroom and Filemaker competency required.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships effectively with all levels of team members, advisors, and outside contacts, including press, and media requests, network events and opportunities, and social media required.
Excels in partnership with a verbal communicator. Should be able to distill a conversation into action items with long-term follow up.
Highly organized.
Excellent references and a clean background check (due to the nature of the position, a background check will be conducted prior to the start of employment).
ASSETS:
Knowledge of, proficiency in, and deep contacts with California-based galleries, art and photography institutions, and dealers is an asset.
Experience and familiarity with photography production and techniques, including fabrication and mounting of shows, project management/timelines, and delegation is an asset.
High proficiency with technology, particularly with complex database systems (ClickUp, Airtable, Salesforce or similar) is an asset.
Project management experience to successfully oversee assigned tasks of varying complexity with overlapping and interrelated deadlines is an asset.
Compensation will be within the $75,000 to $85,000 range commensurate with experience.

It is the same invisible structure within which we lead our existence to propose the windows of freedom, a selection of products and services that summon us to rooms of pleasure, where the dormant senses are stimulated and reactivated to rekindle with our emotions, the only residues of our human nature, that also make us alive.
The protagonists of the art world, as well as any author of any form of free expression, were the first to understand the need to live beyond these structures. This call is an invitation to propose works that testify to this rupture, where freedom is obtained without any exchange, where it is not a product and it is priceless.

Abandoned: Time and Place, Louisville Photo Biennial 2021
Abandoned: Time and Place is an open call for photography that explores the theme of vacant, uninhabitable, or otherwise abandoned spaces. By capturing images of these spaces, we are able to see the ephemeral nature of each environment and preserve them, often moments before these spaces are forgotten, condemned, demolished, or otherwise lost to time. What do these vacant structures say about us as we leave them to decay during a spike in our world’s unhoused population? What is the meaning of shelter, and what-or whom-are we abandoning during these unprecedented times?

This exhibition will run during the 2021 Louisville Photo Biennial and within walking distance of the St. James Art Fair, one of North America’s largest and prestigious art fairs.
