Grey Cube Gallery proudly presents the second Botanicals online art contest for the month of May 2021. Contest is open to all artists worldwide over 18 years of age. The gallery invites artists and photographers to share their artistic vision using any work with with interpretation of botanical and floral art (flowers, herbs, fruit, leaves, plants and related floral subcjects). All visual art mediums (except video and sound) are allowed. The Best of Show winning artwork will be displayed as the poster of the show. Visitor Experience Associate (Wednesday–Sunday)
The Skirball Cultural Center—an institution guided by a spirit of welcome—seeks a warm, friendly, and flexible self-starter with excellent communication skills for the full-time position of Visitor Experience Associate. This person serves on the Visitor Experience team within the Skirball’s Education and Visitor Experience department and reports to the Visitor Experience Manager. This is a 36–40 hour/week position with a pay rate of $15.70/hour and full benefits. The general schedule is Wednesday–Sunday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm, with two six-hour workdays and some schedule shifts to accommodate evening programming.
Responsibilities:
Greet, welcome, and engage with visitors in a warm, professional, and outgoing manner that sets them up for a positive overall Skirball experience.
Perform box office sales using Altru ticketing system.
Resolve any ticketing issues efficiently while providing exceptional customer service. Handles all transactions with attention to detail, discretion, and security.
Receive, track, and account for daily cash and credit receipts ensuring accuracy and completeness. Generate daily Will-Call lists.
Work closely with Security, Porters, and Volunteers at the membership desk to help the lobby run smoothly and ensure a positive visitor experience.
Share visitor experiences and weekend activity reports with manager and other senior staff as requested.
Adhere to COVID-19 safety policies due to working with the public and in different environments.
Some scheduled shifts may include working from home.
Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and verbal communication skills and a friendly, professional demeanor. Active interest in interacting with people for the bulk of each day. Prior experience interacting with families desirable.
Prior sales/box office experience desirable.
Excellent attention to detail, effectiveness as a team player, and ability to solve problems nimbly in a changing environment.
Ability to convey the Skirball’s mission and share information about its exhibitions, programs, and other offerings with visitors.
Ability to interact positively with people of different generations and backgrounds.
Basic math skills to account for receipts, prepare routine reports, and resolve errors.
Basic computer skills and competent written communication skills.
Fluency in (spoken) Spanish preferred.

Graphic Designer
The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a motivated, experienced, and creative professional for the position of full-time, in-house Graphic Designer. A member of the Communications and Marketing department, the Graphic Designer will work under the general supervision of the Graphic Design and Web Manager to create design solutions—both print and digital—that define the Skirball’s visual brand and supports its communications and marketing strategies.
Responsibilities:
Create graphic design for a wide range of communications and marketing materials to promote the Skirball’s exhibitions, programs, and institutional initiatives to general and target audiences. Materials include print ads, flyers, brochures, postcards, general Skirball branded materials, invitations, signage, and large-format graphics, plus a variety of digital media such as banner ads and social media images.
Make updates within existing templates for social media, video slides, e-blasts, digital signage, and wayfinding.
Maintain consistency in visual brand identity and uphold the Skirball’s design style guide.
Collaborate closely with colleagues within the Communications and Marketing team and across the institution.
Update and create graphics for the Skirball website using its Drupal content management system, upholding design aesthetic appropriate for Skirball audiences.
Deliver production-ready files to media partners and print vendors, ensuring that all specifications and deadlines are met. Oversee press checks and quality control as needed.
Direct photography and videography shoots as needed.
Commitment to grow graphic design knowledge through participation in workshops, further education, or reading/researching professional literature. Attend professional development conferences when possible.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and characteristics:
A track record designing effective communications and marketing materials created in accordance with an institutional visual brand identity.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs and expert knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (Mac platform).
Strong understanding of best practices relating to page layout design, typography, and photo manipulation for both print and digital usage.
Knowledge of offset and digital print production.
Experience in website maintenance and design. Drupal knowledge a plus.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Positive, energetic, and cooperative work ethic. Self-starter approach to problem solving and enthusiasm in completing both simple and high-profile projects equally.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a sincere commitment to establishing productive relationships, both within and beyond the institution.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in graphic design with 3+ years professional experience as a print and digital designer.

Southern Exposure (SoEx) is an artist-centered non-profit organization committed to supporting visual artists. ABOUT MISSION VOICES SUMMER (MVS)
MVS provides students in the Bay Area ages 14-21 with a visual art space to explore issues relevant to them and their community, exercise leadership skills, and utilize art as a tool for social change.
ABOUT THE JOB
Three Lead Teaching Artists will work with Southern Exposure’s Artists in Education Program Coordinator to collaborate with and teach approximately 20-40 youth in a series of online workshops to produce visual arts projects based on a socially relevant theme. The program runs for 4 weeks: July 6 – July 29, 2021, Monday through Thursday, 2:00 – 5:00 PM. Each Lead artist will alternate teaching duties during online workshops and hold critique/discussion sessions during the week of July 26. Each teaching artist will work a total of 40 hours over the course of the program which includes weekly meetings. The program culminates in a final exhibition presented to the public at Southern Exposure opening August 12.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design workshop curriculum with components that will be distributed to students
- Attend MVS trainings and curriculum planning meetings on various days June 8 – July 1, exact times and dates TBD
- Attend weekly planning sessions and post-project evaluation meetings
- Gather materials and resources for projects
- Lead the daily workshops in collaboration with Teaching Artist Interns
- Update AIE Program Coordinator about progress, achievements, and challenges
- Prepare project for final exhibition
QUALIFICATIONS
- A practicing visual artist with experience in community-based art projects including but not limited to: social practices, photography, video, painting, drawing, sculpture, and other forms of visual art
- Teaching experience with diverse community youth ages 14-21
- Experience developing arts-based curriculum with an emphasis on collaboration
- Good communication skills and experience working collaboratively
- Exhibition design
- Experience working with online video chat and communication platforms such as Zoom and Slack.
- Spanish and/or Chinese language proficiency a plus
CURRICULUM
Teaching Artists collaboratively propose a socially relevant theme, develop workshops that address that theme, and produce an exhibition at Southern Exposure. Each lead Teaching Artist is responsible for writing a curriculum for their workshops, including goals and objectives of the lessons, proposed outcomes, skills learned, activities, materials needed, themes covered, etc.

Recreation Leaders II + IV – Cultural Arts
The City of South Gate’s Cultural Arts Division is now accepting applications for a Recreation Leader II and a Recreation Leader IV. Rec Leaders support a range of programs by providing assistance to the Cultural Arts Coordinator.
Examples of duties (included but not limited to):
- Coordination of art classes;
- Assistance with installation and de-installation of exhibits;
- Tracking, safe handling, packing and transport of objects in the Museum’s collection;
- Research and organization of Museum’s collection;
- Assistance with social media strategy and creation of social media posts;
- Assistance with community engagement initiatives;
- Assistance with record keeping of programs and events (including survey data);
- Provides customer service via, phone, email and written correspondence;
- Researches special projects;

We are looking for detail-oriented team players who are able to juggle various tasks. Applicants should be highly organized, computer literate, eager to learn and have excellent communication skills. Familiarity with the Southeast Los Angeles community preferred.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of college-level coursework in in an arts-related field and one-year experience in visual and performing arts administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job (volunteer and internship experience okay!). Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) and knowledge of graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite) preferred.
Rate of Compensation:
