Vice President of Programs
The Armory Center for the Arts based in Pasadena, California, seeks an exceptional and experienced Vice President of Programs to lead the organization’s programs team with a specific emphasis on leading our work in schools and will play a critical role within the institution’s leadership team as the organization enters its next phase of growth and further positions itself for long-term success.
This executive-level position reports to the President/Executive Director and will oversee, and implement areas of programmatic integration and overlap among, the onsite and offsite community-based arts education programs, the exhibitions program, and the visitors services team. The Vice President of Programs is also responsible for the planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all K-12 school programs; and for developing and providing training opportunities to all of the Armory’s Teaching Artist faculty and fellows.

Duties & Responsibilities
Overall Programs
- Provide strategic leadership for the Programs team (9 staff members with 4 direct reports) including budgeting, assessing the department, defining short- and long-term goals, objectives, methods, quantifiable outcomes, and timelines that will achieve budgeted goals and ensure accountability.
- Responsible for hiring, training, inspiring, and evaluating program staff and teaching artists.
- Continue modifications of existing program models and partnerships and create new evidence-based programs serving target audiences with the critical input from Program Directors. A key aim is the meaningful overlap of the Armory’s three key programming areas to promote cultural equity.
- Serve as one of the spokespersons for Armory programs; deliver presentations at program events and conferences; and attend relevant partnership meetings to connect with key stakeholders.
- Oversee the Visitor Services team of up to four staff members to provide a welcoming, responsive environment within the building.
- Collaborate with the External Affairs Team to identify funding needs and marketing & communications strategies to further the organization’s efforts to reach and engage new diverse audiences.
Schools Program
- Provide leadership in the development and delivery of all instructional programs including K-12 classrooms and field trips and serve as an arts curriculum development specialist.
- Supervise the day-to-day functioning of the K-12 Schools team of approximately 12 teaching artists and relationships with principals, administrators, and classroom teachers.
- Responsible for government and K-12 partner contract compliance and deliverables.
Qualifications
The Armory is seeking an exceptional leader who will contribute to the overall strength and future impact of the institution. Applicants should have at the minimum an undergraduate degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role. The ideal candidate will have:
- Background in community-based arts education and/or contemporary art management.
- Demonstrated leadership in cultural equity and inclusion and a passion for the Armory’s mission and commitment to contemporary art and community-based arts education.
- Demonstrated delivery of K-12 standards-based, visual arts education and curriculum development experience.
- Experience in developing and managing budgets and establishing clear direction, operating against objectives, and meeting deadlines.
- Experience in meeting facilitation, community relations.
- Experience leading public presentations, trainings, and speaking engagements.
- Ability and desire to use data to drive decisions and manage work plans.
- Ability to manage competing demands, determine priorities, and be agile and responsive to community needs.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills – ability to build consensus across internal and external constituents and work successfully and collaboratively with diverse people in various communities, including institutional and governmental organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to select, train, motivate, and inspire staff, while holding them accountable for their performance.
- Strategic thinker who has superior organization and attention to detail and the ability to creatively problem solve.
- Energetic and enthusiastic leader, comfortable with both the creative elements and technical components of the role, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Working mastery of computer programs including G (Google) Suite, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree in related fields or a Master’s in Fine Arts preferred.
- Availability to periodically work evening hours or weekend days.

Development Director
Rhythmix Cultural Works seeks a Development Director to develop fundraising goals and strategies, solicitation procedures, and oversee all fundraising activities/campaigns. The ideal candidate will be an outgoing relationship-builder that is responsible for developing business partnerships and fundraising events/campaigns related to the organization. You will identify new prospects that will help accelerate the company’s financial growth and serve as liaison with donors, sponsors, foundations and funding partners. The Development Director will also help to establish major gifts and planned giving programs to help build capacity and sustainability for the organization.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet prospective donors and supporters on a regular basis to establish relationships and build effective communications with them.
- Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
- Coordinate fundraising special events.
- Oversee prospect research.
- Build a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
- Work closely with Rhythmix Executive Director, staff and Board of Directors.
- Develop proficiency in Patron Manager fundraising database, tracking donors, generating reports and post donation recognition/appreciation.
- Attend community events as a Rhythmix ambassador to share information about the organization with the community.
- Supervise and collaborate with other fundraising staff.
- Oversee creation of brochures and one-sheets to support fundraising/sponsorship activities.
- Maintain gift recognition, donor and in-kind donor followup.
- Help develop a planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
- Perform data-analysis, list-segmentation and other related duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Strong interpersonal, public relations, communications and writing skills.
- Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.

About East Bay Center for the Performing Arts
East Bay Center for the Performing Arts (The Center) was founded in Richmond immediately after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968 as a response to the unrest, anger, frustration, and need for change. Today our foundational values remain rooted in civil rights, equity, and justice.
The Center has a deep history of serving Richmond youth with music, theater and dance training, new artistic work, and community gatherings that are reflective of the richness and diversity of the local population. Last year, the Center served approximately 3,500 youth in over 10 schools. The Center’s staff consists of 25 administrative staff and approximately 70 – 75 faculty. They are passionate and committed to the values and established goals, and they have a deep understanding of the cultural assets that are present in the community.
About the Position:
We are in search of a seasoned professional who has extensive experience teaching and working with children in a leadership role, focusing in the arts. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Director of School and Neighborhood Partnerships and will assist in leading the vision, direction, and implementation of all East Bay Center programs within the WCCUSD and Community Centers. This will include designing and coordinating programs with schools and community sites, supervising staff and faculty, and administration of logistics and contracts.
The incumbent will play a crucial role in the next phase of the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts’ development, in alignment with the recently updated strategic plan, and will be responsible for effective and ongoing managerial, administrative, and artistic/educational leadership duties at the Center.
Some Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Program Management (50% of time)
- Participate in short- and long-range strategic planning for the department and organization;
- Oversee 6-8 arts education programs at various WCCUSD sites and community centers;
- Develop and manage Learning Without Borders, a professional development/arts integration program for classroom teachers;
- Coordinate and liaise with school and district administrators and teachers;
- In collaboration with other Center departments, assist with communication and outreach in the schools and community sites to enhance the visibility of the Center’s programs and events;
- Support and assist with the evaluation and assessment of all programs;
- Facilitate and track school and community center contracts, invoices and billing;
- Support the development and execution of a preschool/early childhood arts program
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Staff and Faculty Management and Development (50% of Time)
- Supervise and direct the work of a group of faculty and staff focused on outreach and access program development and delivery;
- Support faculty and staff in developing diverse arts curriculum and implementing dynamic, effective and culturally relevant instruction in various community programs;
- Assist with the hiring, onboarding and orientation of Teaching Artists for the School Partnerships team.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in performing arts, education, or a related field; teaching credential and/or Master’s a plus but not required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with children and youth in school settings; and developing music curriculum for such grade levels;
- Experience working with, coaching, and/or managing teachers or Teaching Artists;
- Passion for performing arts and high-level proficiency of artistry;
- Experience working in under-resourced communities with socio-economic, racial and culturally diverse classroom settings;
- Ability to effectively manage large groups of students;
- Experience coordinating music assemblies and performances;
- Proven ability to work with children in a caring and respectful manner in order to create a joyful, caring classroom environment where instructional time includes community building, conflict resolution, skill-building, and empowering students to be peacemakers and agents for positive social change;
- Fluency in Spanish a plus, but not required;
- Humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, collaborative nature, and a can-do attitude;
- Experience working in a diverse work environment
- Belief that all students can express themselves artistically and achieve at high levels;
- Strong written and verbal skills and ability to communicate to a diverse audience.

Work Schedule:
- Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week. May be required to work some overtime as needed.
- Some evenings and weekends as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
- Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach children throughout the day.
- Prolonged periods sitting and working on a computer to complete necessary paperwork.
Other Requirements:
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive Criminal Background Check
- Must be able to provide valid I-9 documents to determine proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
