ABOUT THE JUROR:
Orin Carpenter
“For me, art is about layers — each piece revealing truths about humanity and identity. Working with mixed media allows me to unify materials in a process that mirrors life itself: intricate, dynamic, and transformative. In my abstract work, I strive to capture the rhythms and patterns of existence, expressing the essence of our experiences through color, texture, and harmony. My identity as a Black man profoundly shapes my art, infusing it with authenticity and purpose. Each creation is a reflection of my story and an invitation for others to discover their own.”

Join the Biofeedback Art|Research Network
Biofeedback Art|Research Network (BARN) is a global community of artists, makers, scholars, and researchers exploring the intersection of biological data and creative expression.
Members integrate biosensors into their creative practices, seeking to better understand the terms and implications of converging biological organisms with human-made artifice — particularly data-sourcing technology and “intelligent” devices. Through this work, we probe questions of embodiment, agency, and what it means to be human in an age of pervasive sensing and algorithmic systems.
As an interdisciplinary and international network, we are dedicated to:
- Collaboration across domains and cultures of knowledge — bridging art, science, technology, and humanities to generate new forms of understanding and creative expression.
- Facilitation of peer support and mentorship — creating spaces where members can share knowledge, troubleshoot technical challenges, and grow together.
- Amplifying historically marginalized voices — actively supporting greater visibility and opportunities for artists identifying as women, gender non-conforming persons, members of BIPOC communities, people of different abilities, and other practitioners from historically underrepresented groups.
We hope in this decentralized community you’ll find nurturing ideas as well as a sense of belonging.
