Town of Yucca Valley Seeks Art Installation at the Yucca Valley Branch Library
The Town of Yucca Valley has announced a Call for Artists to provide a temporary art installation at the southwest corner of Hwy 62 and Hwy 247, at the Yucca Valley Branch Library property.
The Town is seeking to work with local artists as part of its Public Art Program. The goal of the program is to support artists through the creation of public art to be placed throughout the Town to enhance the beauty and vibrancy of Yucca Valley, showcase artists and their work to a broader segment of the community, and bring art to unexpected places. The Town’s intent is to have rotating art at various locations, including the central library plaza at the intersection of Highways 62 and 247, at the very center of town. During the winter holidays, the prominent location is home to the Town’s Christmas Tree display. The selected artist’s submission will be installed at the location in January 2025, remaining on display until November 2025. The selected submission will also be recognized in Town promotions and social media.
The 2024 installation currently on display is Infinite Connection by local metal sculptor Gubby Beck. The public can continue to view the sculpture through November when the winter holiday season kicks off with the Town’s Christmas Tree taking its place. Gubby created this sculpture, stretching the boundary of how a form looks in more than one perspective. This also allows the viewer to interpret their own vision of what the sculpture portrays and opens the imagination to think outside the box. The shapes play with light and shadow, continuing its form and changing throughout the time of day as well as the seasons. Ms. Beck is currently featured on the Town’s Public Art Library Plaza webpage.
Artwork submitted for consideration for the 2025 installation should seek to enliven and transform the location. The art should be visible from a distance; therefore, artists may choose to utilize bold designs. Artists may submit more than one concept for consideration. All entries must be an original design, include all items required in the application packet, must be suitable for viewing by all ages and segments of the community, and be able to withstand outdoor weather elements. Individuals, or teams of artists, from Yucca Valley and surrounding communities, are invited to share a detailed explanation of their artistic vision for this installation. Youth and student artists in grade 7th or above are also strongly encouraged to apply.
The selected artist will receive a $500 stipend and $1000 in reimbursements. Application information is available online at www.yucca-valley.org or in person at the Yucca Valley Community Center from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Applications and requested documents must be submitted via email to publicart@yucca-valley.org by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024.
For more information on the Town of Yucca Valley Public Art Program, or to view the application packet, please visit the Town’s website at www.yucca-valley.org or contact the Community Services Office at 760 369-7211, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

O’Hanlon Center for the Arts invites you to submit work for our 20th Annual Wabi-Sabi Exhibition 2024
“…celebrating the simple, the rustic, the unassuming; the dignity of things imperfect, uncontrolled and incomplete; the transient beauty of the natural world…”
When seeking to understand Wabi-Sabi, it is helpful to contemplate the idea that beauty is inherent in a simple object, which in turn evokes a quiet, thoughtful mood and atmosphere. The emphasis of this exhibit will be not on the final perfected form of the work, but on how well pieces reflect a sense and feeling of this elusive concept. In particular, the focus will be on the imaginative use of natural materials that may include found objects.

Submission Deadline: September 13, 2024
CSUN Art Galleries invites local artists to submit portrait-based works to be considered for exhibition.
Seeing and Being Seen investigates the potential that portraiture holds as a method of remembrance, empowerment, and reflection. It is a collection of works that explore the human urge to create and document themselves and those around them — recording our existence on pottery, in marble, on canvas, and on phones. The portrait is not as restricted as it was centuries ago – it is accessible to many more people and can extend beyond literal representations. Contemporary portraiture invites us to reexamine the intent of the artist and its relationship to the people being presented.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL | Possibility Prances: A place for matters to rest
Side Street Projects is requesting proposals for our upcoming 2024-’25 Artist Residency titled, Possibility Prances: A place for matters to rest. This residency is offered to artists or collectives interested in developing an interactive, community-engaged art project with a Trauma-Informed Care approach. The residency will take place between November 2024 and June 2025 based on the availability of applicants.
The Possibility Prances: A place for matters to rest residency is available for artists interested in developing socially engaged projects in connection to the communities Side Street Projects serves. Projects should aim to honor process over product and make space for regeneration, deep listening, and peer-to-peer mentorship.
Previous artists have used this opportunity as an incubation space for a larger project, as some projects continue beyond the scope of this residency’s timeline.
This project is funded by the Pasadena Community Foundation and is intended to serve folks who reside in or have a meaningful connection to the City of Pasadena and Altadena. Side Street Projects maintains a range of community partners who can potentially inform and collaborate with the projects. We honor our relationships and partners as precious resources. We recognize that resource abundance is also connected to the strength and care of our relationships.
If you have questions or need support with the application process, reach out to opencall@sidestreet.org or call (626) 798-7774.
