About the EXHIBITION
This exhibition encourages artists to act as ambassadors for “resilience” — both personal and climate-related — by applying their artistic talent and skills to widen people’s perceptions and ability to develop resilience personally and for their communities, as well as for the greater good for humanity and the earth.
Resilient comes from the word resile which means to spring back, bounce back, or recoil. Resilience refers to both the process and the outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging experiences
Climate resilience is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to hazardous events, trends, or disturbances related to climate. Improving climate resilience involves assessing how the climate crisis is creating new, and altering current, climate-related risks, and taking steps to better cope with these risks.
Emotional resilience refers to one’s ability to adapt to stressful situations or crises. When a person is resilient they possess the power to recover quickly from difficulty, crisis, stress, and hardship.
Resilience for ourselves, our communities and natural environment provides the means to adapt to stress, disappointment and change, while gaining insight to avoid actions that might lead us to repeat the same set of circumstances. It is the strength to move forward in a new direction.
Creating personal and climate resilience is crucial to life in the 21st century.
Apply today to share your art works visualizing “resilience”.
Portrait | Juried Art Exhibition and Competition
UPWARD Gallery invites artists worldwide to submit artwork to our juried art exhibition and competition, Portrait.
Portrait in the art is an image of the personality, through which the artist’s conscious image of the time comes through. Portraiture is not only the depiction of the face and figure of a person, but it implies and expresses the whole world through the human personality, individuality embodied by art. And not only through the personality of the model, but also through the personality and individuality of the artist.
All artists 18 and older are encouraged to submit their work in any medium, style, and genre.
Acceptable mediums include all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point), digital painting, arts and crafts (beadwork, pottery, embroidery, floristry, batik, stained glass, two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well, etc.).
All accepted pieces will be displayed in our online gallery at upwardgallery.com.

Feelings and Emotions | Juried exhibition for curators
UPWARD Gallery invites curators worldwide to submit artwork to our juried art exhibition, Feelings and Emotions.
One of the most important functions of art is that it helps a person to clarify their own feelings and emotions. It provides a mirror that reflects the images of the feelings we experience, which allows us not only to evaluate ourselves and see our emotional world from the outside, but also to tell something to another about his world. Looking into this mirror, the viewer can identify himself with the character or the author, penetrate the world of a work of art, understand the feelings and perceive the emotions contained in it.
Acceptable mediums include all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point), digital painting, arts and crafts (beadwork, pottery, embroidery, floristry, batik, stained glass, two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well, etc.).
No profanity or political artwork.
Entries must be submitted by curators of entrants. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older. Curators may not submit their own artworks.
All accepted pieces will be displayed in our online gallery at upwardgallery.com.
The winners (1st place) — the artist and his curator will be interviewed by the UPWARD Gallery editors for publication in the quarterly printed edition UPWARD’s Quarterly and on the site in the section Interviews.
All entrants will receive digital certificates based on the results of the exhibition.
The curator can submit three artworks free of charge to participate in the curated exhibition.
This exhibition is for curators only, not for individual artists.

2050 S Bundy Public Art RFQ
This call for artists will reach out for four different project opportunities at 2050 S Bundy on the Westside of Los Angeles.
The aim for all four artwork opportunities is to create world-class public artwork in a
diverse range of mediums that are designed to engage the community, and showcase the
cultural diversity of the City and enhance the various civic and public spaces.
Each location is different and asks for its own unique mediums utilizing highly imaginative
and forward-thinking approaches. Selected artists and artist teams will be asked to
demonstrate creative applications to support the building and activation of a community
interconnected by its public art.
We encourage Artists and Artist Teams to review the opportunities and consider how their
own practice relates to the conceptual and visual demands and how their art practice
might address the stated project goals. When applying to the RFQ, Artists and Artist
Teams may apply for one or multiple opportunities that they feel they can develop strong
concepts and visions for.
Please see eligibility requirements and more information here.
