Spanish Language Translator / Performer
Prescott Circus Theatre is seeking a Spanish language translator / performer for a free public performance on Saturday, April 22 in Oakland, CA. The show takes place from 1:30 – 2:30pm. Working hours would likely be 1:00 – 3:00pm with additional prep time phone / zoom meeting and script review.
The 60-minute show consists of children performing circus routines, singing, and instrumental music.
Spanish translation would happen alongside our MC starting 20 minutes before showtime when we begin making announcements and welcoming audiences. Following, speaking will take place at the beginning of the show, in-between routines (1 – 3 minutes at a time), and at the end of the performance. The show takes place outdoors in a public park in Oakland.
The best candidate for the show would be someone with performing experience who can work alongside our MC, a professional actress and clown, to present the show with charisma and joy.

Artist of the Month, February 2023 | Juried Exhibition
UPWARD Gallery invites artists worldwide to submit artwork to our juried art exhibition and competition, Artist of the Month, February 2023.
All artists 18 and older are encouraged to submit their work in any medium, style, and genre.
Acceptable mediums include all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point), digital painting, arts and crafts (beadwork, pottery, embroidery, floristry, batik, stained glass, two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well, etc.).
All accepted pieces will be displayed in our online gallery at upwardgallery.com.
The winners (1st place) are interviewed by the UPWARD Gallery editors for publication in the printed edition UPWARD’s Quarterly and on our site.
Each entrant of the competition receives a personal page (solo exhibition) in the UPWARD gallery, where they can show their art and tell about themselves.
Selected works will be featured in curated galleries on our site.
All entrants will receive electronic certificates based on the results of the competition.
Entry fee: $12 per 1 entry. $10 per entry (2-4 entries), $9 per entry (5 and more entries). For artists under 22 – $6 per entry.

Commissioned Artist for Redline Redefined
We are looking to commission artists for our project, Redline Redefined.
Location: formerly redlined neighborhood of the Bay Area
Compensation Range: $1,500-$2,500 depending on scope of the project
Thingamajigs is looking to commission artists living in formerly redlined neighborhoods to create audio and visual pieces that investigates, explores, and narrates the cruel history and lasting effects of redlining.
Pieces will live on our interactive map.
We started Redline Redefined in Oakland and Berkeley and are expanding our project to include more artists and locations.

Teaching Artists
Compensation Range: $75/hr plus materials
Thingamajigs is an artists non-profit looking to hire teaching artists for a myriad of programs we have: Thingamakids!, Community Workshops, and Jump StArt. We received funding from the California Arts Council and the City of Oakland.
Community Workshops in 2023:
Lead your own community workshop at Shapeshifters Cinema in Oakland, CA.
Usually a one off workshop, but can discuss longer ones as well
These should be more casual and fun for workshop attendees.
Can be sound, art, or maker inspired
Workshops to happen in March 2023-December 2023
Jump StArt workshops in 2023:
Create and lead your own music and art workshops for system impacted youth
Could be a one time workshop, or a short series.

Thingamakids! Workshops in 2024:
Workshops will happen in OUSD schools during school hours.
We are looking for visual or sound artists to lead in-school workshops with students 4th-7th grade. Artists will go into the classroom as a pair (one visual artist, one sound artist) to design and create a sound sculpture with the students. These sculptures will be then displayed at the end of the school year, with all the other schools.
Must be able to travel and work in Oakland.
In-School residency will last between 1 month to 2 months.
Sometime between February-May 2024.
Public showcase in May 2024.

Call for Art – City of Paramount Mural – Paramount Paints
The City of Paramount is seeking applications from artists for a public art opportunity. This opportunity is for a mural and is open to experienced artists living and working in Southern California.
The mural theme is Vibrancy and Positivity in the Community. The commission is open to all types of design approaches and styles. The City is looking for a lasting mural that will inspire residents and visitors, bring more foot traffic to Downtown Paramount, and be a point of community pride.
The project budget is $30,000. The application deadline is March 1, 2023.
