Artist of the Summer | Juried Art Exhibition
UPWARD Gallery invites artists worldwide to submit artwork to our juried art exhibition and competition, Artist of the Summer.
All artists 18 and older are encouraged to submit their work in any medium, style, and genre.
Acceptable mediums include all traditional art media (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point), digital painting, arts and crafts (beadwork, pottery, embroidery, floristry, batik, stained glass, two-dimensional collage and fabric art as well, etc.).
All accepted pieces will be displayed in our online gallery at upwardgallery.com.
The winners (1st place) are interviewed by the UPWARD Gallery editors for publication in the printed edition UPWARD’s Quarterly and on our site.
Each entrant of the competition receives a personal page in the UPWARD gallery. Selected works will be featured in curated galleries on our site. All entrants will receive digital certificates based on the results of the competition.

2023 Foundwork Artist Prize: $10,000 Grant with Studio Visits and Interview
The Foundwork Artist Prize is an annual juried grant awarded to recognize outstanding practices by emerging and mid-career artists working in any media.
The 2023 honoree will receive an unrestricted $10,000 grant and studio visits with each of the distinguished jurors.
In addition, the honoree and three shortlisted artists will be invited for interviews as part of the Foundwork Dialogues program to further public engagement with their practices.
The jury for the 2023 Foundwork Artist Prize includes esteemed curators, gallerists, and artists based in Los Angeles, Medellín, Miami, and New York:

To be considered, artists must maintain a published profile on the Foundwork website, with at least 6 artworks and an artist statement published on their profile page, throughout the selection period: 5:00 pm PT, September 26– 5:00 pm PT, December 31, 2023.

Mottainai – Too Good To Waste
S.C.R.A.P. Gallery invites artists worldwide to submit artwork for Mottainai – Too Good To Waste.
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
The concept of mottainai is translated to mean “too good to waste” or “what a waste.” An ancient Japanese practice and philosophy, this exhibit aims to embrace mottainai through modern-day artistic form and function.
ELIGIBILITY
This call is open to all artists and students and encourages artists. Media and materials considered include textiles, ceramics, painting, prints, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. Use of recycled and repurposed materials is required.
SIZE REQUIREMENTS: 24” x 36” max.

Call for Graphic and Digital Designers
DCA is seeking experienced and talented graphic / digital designers to provide design services for various DCA digital / web-based materials. Individuals selected for the prequalified roster will be eligible to bid on specific projects including: Annual Reports; Heritage Month Calendars and Cultural Guides; Program Brochures; Art Exhibition Catalogs and Didactics; Requests for Qualifications; Requests for Proposals; Event Marketing Materials; Program Logos; Websites and Website Initiatives and Exhibitions Pages; Social Media Assets; and other print and digital / web items as needed. Selected graphic/digital designers will be required to produce printed and PDF comps and final digital files for DCA printed materials and for digital / web use.
This call is open to graphic / digital designers residing in Los Angeles County.
Applicants must have a minimum five (5) years of paid graphic / digital design experience.
Employees of the City of Los Angeles are ineligible to apply.
