Art Works Downtown invites creators to submit their artwork for an exhibit centered around the theme of identity. From cultural roots to personal journeys, the complexities of identity are vast and varied. We encourage artists to delve into the facets that shape who you are—or who we are—and contribute perspectives about self-discovery, belonging, and transformation. This exhibition aims to showcase the diverse narratives that contribute to the rich tapestry of human identity both as individuals and as a collective species.

Vice President of Advancement

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music seeks a Vice President of Advancement (VPA) reporting to the President and serving as a key member of its senior leadership team to support the mission, vision, and growth of SFCM within an inspiring and dynamic organization. As the lead strategic fundraiser and liaison to the President and Board, the VPA directs, recruits, and mentors an outstanding team of 11 development professionals while overseeing all aspects of Advancement at SFCM. Building on the momentum of the successful capital campaign for the Bowes Center, planning is underway for a comprehensive effort to grow annual fund, endowment, and special project support. The VPA will direct and lead annual fundraising of $8 million, as well as demonstrate progress toward the longer-term funding plans for SFCM. The direct reports for the VPA are the Associate Vice President of Advancement, the Associate Vice President of Advancement Operations, and the Director of Donor Engagement and Special Events. The ability to travel as needed to represent SFCM and to be present at evening and weekend events is required.

 

Role and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

·        Develop and leads goal-driven, short and long-term fundraising plans to support contributed revenue for SFCM.

·        Direct individual giving, major gifts, alumni support, corporate and individual support, fundraising events, planned gifts, and stewardship activities for annual and endowment support. Advises and assists the President and key Trustees on principal gift strategy and solicitation.

·        Collaborate with the President and key trustees to ensure strong momentum for partnerships, special initiatives, and opportunities available through the alliance of Opus 3 Artists, Askonas Holt, and Pentatone.

·        Strategize with key members of SFCM’s senior leadership team to align operational priorities and maximize engagement with the donor, alumni, student, and faculty communities.

·        Cultivate and solicits a portfolio of high-net-worth donors for major and planned gifts.

·        Partner with volunteers and SFCM’s event leaders to conceive, implement, and evaluate contemporary and compelling events that drive donor engagement and fundraising for SFCM.

·        Maximize the opportunities to engage alumni in support and leadership of SFCM.

·        Maintain a strategic knowledge of best practices and significant trends in philanthropy and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.

·        Embrace other strategic leadership and comprehensive implementation responsibilities as needed.

 

Board and Donor Engagement

·        Act as primary liaison to the Advancement Committee, Campaign Cabinet, and Governance & Nominating Committee.

·        Collaborate with the President and Nominating Committee to identify, cultivate, and recruit prospective board members.

·        Create strategies with the Advancement Committee that build meaningful paths for the Bay Area’s diverse community to engage in supporting SFCM as donors, partners, advisors, and community ambassadors.

·        Advise board members, both individually and collectively, on best practices in community ambassadorship and donor cultivation.

·        Embrace other board and donor engagement responsibilities as needed.

 

Team and Organizational Oversight

·        Shape the strategic development plan for Advancement operations.

·        Manage the Advancement leadership team to ensure there are established performance metrics and that Advancement staff are accountable for and reach their fundraising goals.

·        Ensure that the Advancement department structure and staffing are optimized to support SFCM’s fundraising goals and that Advancement staff have the supervisory support and administrative resources they need to be successful. Recruits and mentors new team members.

·        Oversee the strategic use of the database and other development communication tools, coordinating communications with existing and potential donors to ensure the highest level of donor engagement, satisfaction, and expressions of appreciation.

·        Model the continued development and maintenance of effective communications and record management programs for donor engagement and data collection/tracking, coordinating closely with colleagues in Marketing and Communications.

·        Guide and oversees spending for Advancement operations and ensures budget adherence.

·        Create a supportive, collaborative, productive, and healthy work environment based on respect, teamwork, and the equity, diversity, and inclusion values of the SFCM.

·        Embrace other team leadership responsibilities as needed.

 

Traits and Characteristics

The Vice President of Advancement will have the willingness to engage and work with different perspectives and demonstrate an openness to new ideas, complemented by outstanding interpersonal skills. Demonstrating an ability to engage donors at all levels, trustees, senior leadership, staff, and other key members of the SFCM community, the VPA will model accountability and diplomacy as foundational skills in the role. Characteristics of the VPA include:

Qualifications

A minimum of seven years of proven organizational, supervisory, and fundraising leadership experience is required. A successful record of conceptualizing and executing fundraising plans, particularly in a performing arts or higher education context is desired. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ability to sincerely advocate for and promote SFCM, are needed.

 

Compensation and Benefits

ABOUT A.C.T.

Position Purpose:

A.C.T. seeks a Company Manager to join the Company Management Team at A.C.T. The team currently consists of a Company Manager and Artist Logistic Coordinator and the addition of another Company Manager will help round out the team to support coverage of all company management responsibilities 7 days a week while also maintaining the team’s ability to schedule weekends and personal time off. Please note – A.C.T.’s current Company Manager will take a leave of absence from July 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024 and return January 2, 2025. We aim for training to take place for the new Company Manager from June 1-30, 2024. Then the Company Management team will be a 2 person team between July and December and become a three person team in January 2025.

 

The Company Management team is a key contributor to the General Management team and crucial link between mainstage show company members and the greater organization of A.C.T. The Company Manager will work closely with the Company Management Team, General Manager and General Management Associate and collaborates on projects with the Artistic, Production, Facilities, and Audience Services departments, with a main focus on ensuring A.C.T. is a place where collaborating artists can do their best work. The ideal candidate will lean on their empathy, patience, and sense of humor as they navigate the needs of each individual production and determine the best way to offer support. They will boast demonstrated successes in working both independently and as part of a team, and will have highly advanced organizational skills.

 

Responsibilities: (please note, this list is not exhaustive, but rather a representation of job duties)

 

Administrative Duties:

  • The Company Manager will be the lead on AEA contracting for A.C.T.’s new works program and will support the current Company Manager on contracting for the mainstage. Responsibilities in this area will include:
    • Responsible for Actor and Stage Manager offers and contracts (both AEA-Actors’ Equity Association and non-union).
    • Oversee the onboarding of artists, including setting them up in A.C.T.’s Payroll system, ADP, and processing weekly actor and stage manager payroll
    • Process weekly AEA benefits reports and ensure timely delivery of all payments owed to the union
    • Provide copy-editing support for A.C.T. publications to ensure they follow contractual requirements
  • Alongside the rest of the General Management Team, ensure all productions stay in compliance with union regulations and guidelines
  • Maintain a working relationship with LORT (League of Resident Theatres) counsel and union representatives
  • Provide Company Management support for other projects like internal and external workshops and A.C.T.’s Gala.
  • Company Manager will work with the current Company Manager to maintain housing relationships with corporate apartments & hotel partners.
  • Maintaining Asana projects accessed by ACT staff for information sharing across A.C.T.
  • Compile and curate artist information for contacts sheets, face pages, and programs

 

Logistical and Artist Service Duties:

  • With the current Company Manager, manage and arrange company housing and transportation for all visiting artists and traveling staff, including hotel/apartment accommodations, flights, shipping needs, pet requirements, etc. ensuring artists have all details for arrival in advance of their travel.
  • On a rotating schedule with the current Company Manager and Artist Logistic Coordinator, Company Manager will serve as an emergency contact and first responder to urgent matters from show company members. They will also respond to needs of artists in residence including both during normal business hours and nights and weekends.
  • Oversee and maintain relationships with other service vendors, such as Catering and AEA Preventative Physical Therapy
  • Company Manager will provide Injury/Illness support per the guidelines of A.C.T.’s Injury and Illness guide. This includes but it not limited to arranging doctor’s appointments for workers’ compensation claims, and working in tandem with HR to ensure the artist has the appropriate documentation;
  • Track travel and housing expenses incurred for all shows, workshops, and readings
  • Support in processing and tracking reimbursements for all guest artists.
  • With the Company Management Team, maintain company management storage and distribute items to guest artists as requested
  • Act as representative of the General Management department during each rehearsal process, tech period, and performances: checking in with the Stage Manager, acting company, production team, and theater staff frequently
  • Manage and attend company events including, but not limited to, Meet and Greets, Opening Night Parties, Company Meetings, and Closing Moments

 

COVID Safety Duties:

  • A.C.T.’s Artist Logistic Coordinator is the COVID Safety Contact for A.C.T.’s mainstage productions. On Artist Logistic Coordinator’s days off, Company Managers will share the coverage of these duties.

 

Other Duties:

  • Manage and maintain company car, including its use by other departments, and following up on maintenance needs with Facilities
  • Company Managers will work together with the Director of Ticket Services to  manage ticket policies for every production.

 

Qualifications & Qualities:

  • 2-5 years of work experience either in Company Management for a LORT Theater or Hospitality, or other artist facing positions at a performing arts institution or other live entertainment venue
  • Highly reliable, extremely organized, with acute attention to detail and independence—ability to set and meet priorities while accomplishing multiple tasks
  • Flexibly Responsive—can meet surprises and challenges with creative problem-solving strategies, effective communication, speed, and precision
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Experience managing relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds; comfort engaging frequently with new people and developing new working relationships quickly
  • Capable of responding quickly and appropriately to the often personal needs of guest artists.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with financial and payroll systems ADP, Bill, and/or Paycom highly beneficial
  • Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs consistently
  • Familiarity or some experience with LORT Collective Bargaining Agreements or theatrical unions is highly beneficial: AEA, SDC, USA, IATSE
  • Available and willing to prioritize significant evening, weekend, and long work hours based on needs of each show
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Proficiency in project management tools like Asana highly beneficial
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with A.C.T. colleagues and stakeholders.

Artist Liaison – Seasonal

Artist Liaison

Music@Menlo is currently seeking a mature, reliable Artist Liaison for its 2024 festival season. The Artist Liaison will work closely with festival staff to coordinate logistics for performing artists and lecturers including travel, housing, local transportation, and scheduling. The Artist Liaison’s main role will be to serve as the primary point of contact for artists any time of day or night and ensure their overall comfort. Starting and ending dates for onsite activites are July 8 through August 12. The Artist Liaison reports to the Director of Artistic Administration.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following):

1) Travel & Housing

-Assist artists with travel arrangements, rental car reservations, and travel changes as applicable (either through festival travel agent, or with festival staff)
Compile and track all travel and housing related information and input into master schedule with complete accuracy
-Communicate all necessary travel and housing details (including home host information, driving directions, maps, schedules, airport pick-up procedures, etc.) to artists
-Visit and become familiar with artist host homes prior to artist arrivals and assist with distribution of home host packets
-Serve as a primary point of contact with rental car company to manage, track, and adjust artists’ rental reservations

2) Logistics and Transportation

-Act as festival concierge to artists and be on call to handle emergencies and necessary requests at any time of day or night
-Work with Development team to coordinate artist arrivals at host homes
-Greet festival artists at airport or rental car agency, assist with luggage and rental car, and accompany to host homes
-Be ready and able to answer artists’ questions about area resources (restaurants, local services, etc.)
-Assist artists with departures from their host homes and airports as requested (early morning and late evening trips to the airport may be required)
-Drive artists to/from rehearsals and events as needed

3) Events

-Provide artists with information and driving directions to all social events; coordinate artists’ transportation logistics to and from post-concert parties and dinners
-Assist Development team with compiling artist RSVPs to all social events
-Keep track of which artists are on campus at any given time and assist with coordinating lunches and other needs
-Attend rehearsals, performances, and social events as needed
-Manage artist greenroom hospitality

4) Administrative

-Create, distribute and update individual artists’ schedules
-Create welcome packets for artists and distribute artist welcome gifts
-Update travel/housing/fee spreadsheets to maintain accurate records
-Manage artist’s complimentary ticket requests
-Acquire, copy, distribute and collect music as needed
-Collect and properly submit travel reimbursement forms and receipts
-Work with PR team and Artistic Administrator to facilitate artist interviews as needed

Other duties may be assigned to ensure the overall comfort of festival artists.

-Must be able to manage a large workload over a short period of time; Music@Menlo will determine the nature of the Artist Liaison’s work, but the Artist Liaison will determine the means in which the work is accomplished

Music@Menlo, an internationally acclaimed chamber music festival and institute under the artistic

Resident Advisor – Seasonal

Resident Advisor

Music@Menlo is currently seeking three Resident Advisors for its 2024 festival season to oversee approximately fifteen students ages 14-19 who will reside at Menlo College. This is a seasonal, contract position. The successful candidate must have prior work experience working with youth in a summer camp or day program setting, or experience at the college-level as a residential life advisor or student peer advisor/counselor. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are required. Starting and ending dates for onsite activities are July 17 through August 11. The Resident Advisor reports to the Director of Artistic Administration.

Responsibilities

-Conduct an inventory and inspection of all residential rooms prior to student arrival, ensuring rooms are ready for occupancy
-Transport students from airport to Menlo College and oversee student arrival and check in on Thursday, July 17
-Assist students with settling in to their rooms and create a sense of community by initiating social activities, sitting together at meal times, etc.
-Orient students by conducting a tour of the dormitory and campus and discussing policies and procedures
-Serve as the primary point of contact and chaperone for all residential students from Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, August 11; be available to care for and supervise students in a nurturing and positive manner.
-Transport students between Menlo School/Menlo College and shops for errands on vehicle provided by Music@Menlo
-Enforce dormitory rules, student curfew and perform room checks as needed
-Monitor student behavioral problems and report incidents in a timely manner
-Ensure that emergency contact information for each student is readily available in the event of an emergency
-Plan and organize recreational activities on non-program days (typically Sundays)
-During room check out, conduct an inventory and inspection of all residential rooms, ensuring personal belongings are not left behind
-Assist in transporting students to airport for departure

Qualifications
-Demonstrated experience working with youth in a summer camp or day program setting, or experience at the college-level as a residential life advisor or student peer advisor/counselor
-Outstanding communication and organization skills plus ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations at any given time
-Ability to display a high degree of maturity and act as a role model for students
-Ability to remain calm and pleasant in a fast-paced environment, as well as make good decisions quickly
–For insurance purposes, must be over the age of 21, have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Compensation

Contractual compensation is $3,000. No employee benefits will be offered or available. A single room in the dormitory plus three meals per day will be provided at no cost. Airfare and ground transportation also provided for candidates who normally reside outside the Bay Area.

Catering and Artist Hospitality Manager – Seasonal

Catering and Artist Hospitality Manager

Music@Menlo is seeking a mature and reliable Catering and Artist Hospitality Manager for its 2024 festival season. The Catering and Artist Hospitality Manager will work closely with festival staff to coordinate and provide meals, refreshments, and snacks for the festival’s performing artists, Chamber Music Institute students, and staff—over 100 people daily—during the festival’s three weeks. The Catering and Artist Hospitality Manager’s primary role will be to serve as the festival’s point person for all daytime food related hospitality. Starting and ending dates for onsite activities are July 9 through August 13, 2024. This position reports to the Development Director.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following):

·       Manage $50,000 contract food service company to provide daily meals for artists, students, and staff, tracking and managing special requirements, including food allergies and dietary restrictions

·       Manage concessions orders with food vendors

·       Coordinate and deliver any offsite artist and staff lunches

·       Plan, procure, and manage artist greenroom refreshments for all concerts and recording sessions—over 50 events—ensuring successful delivery, execution, and inventory management, while staying within budget

·       Oversee the upkeep of all greenrooms ensuring that rooms are clean and welcoming for artists

·       Set up and maintain daily morning coffee service for artists, students, staff, and patrons

·       Assist Artist Liaison with artist arrivals and departures, escorting artists to or from host homes as needed

·       Assist on occasional development evening events hosting artists and donors

·       Represent the festival professionally, positively, and responsibly at all times, from working with vendors to providing excellent hospitality to festival artists, students, staff, and patrons
