Theme:  Calling artists to submit your vibrant creations for our Summer Dreaming exhibition. Capture the essence of sun-soaked days, lazy afternoons, and the vibrant colors that define summer. Express your vision and interpretation through any medium that transports the viewer to a whimsical realm of heat and light-hearted adventure.

Artwork Requirements (abbreviated):

  • San Francisco Bay Area artists only (artist must live within 100 miles from San Rafael, California).
  • Open to most subject matter including abstraction.
  • Open to all visual arts media including sculpture and video. Original artwork only. No giclées or reproductions.
  • Size limit: artwork must not exceed 72” including frame, stand, and all materials.

Application fee: $40 for up to 3 entries. Discount provided to AWD Artist Members.

San Mateo County – RFQ Veterans and First Responders Memorial

The County of San Mateo Office of Arts and Culture and Public Development Unit are seeking to commission a local experienced public and/or outdoor artist or team of artists to design a Memorial honoring the County’s veterans and first responders. As part of the redevelopment of County Center, the Memorial will be placed between 400 & 455 County Center, Redwood City, CA 94063.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

As we are only seeking qualifications at this time, the selected finalists will work with the County’s project team on further development of concepts. To be considered for this Request for Qualifications, the artist or team must meet the following criteria:

  • LOCATED IN THE 9 BAY AREA COUNTIES: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties.
  • Experienced in design and installation of artwork in the public realm.
  • Be a practitioner in the arts with an original, self-conceptualized body of work, [generally recognized by critics and peers as possessing serious intent and ability].
  • Ability to furnish all supplies, materials and equipment necessary for the design and installation of the artwork;
  • Experienced working with substantial budgets of $100,000 or more.
  • Willing to work collaboratively with government staff in a professional manner.

Education Programs Associate, BAYAC AmeriCorps

Are you excited to work with youth to develop their writing skills? Are you eager to give back to your community and learn about nonprofits? This opportunity is an 11-month, full-time AmeriCorps service position (40+ hours/week), through the Bay Area Youth Agency Consortium (BAYAC), a program of Bay Area Community Resources (BACR). We’re hiring 12 AmeriCorps members to support various 826 Valencia programs starting mid-August 2024. 

AmeriCorps members work closely with 826 Valencia staff, volunteers, and youth to support students with writing and amplify their voices as published authors. The ideal candidates love working with youth, believe that every young person can achieve at the highest level, and will do their best to provide the necessary academic support. We are looking for candidates who are committed to learning and growing, are interested in service, and can persevere through challenges in pursuit of improved outcomes for the students we serve. 

 

POSITION SNAPSHOT

** Serve as a writing tutor to Bay Area youth who live in under-resourced communities
** Help amplify student voices through publishing projects
** Work as part of a team, including administrative tasks

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

** Tutor and mentor students in order to improve their writing skills, confidence, and pride; maintain student safety through positive behavior management
** Build relationships with volunteer tutors and provide ongoing guidance and feedback on their tutoring practice; escalate situations to the attention of 826 Valencia staff as needed
** Curate and copyedit student writing using 826 Valencia style guides; consistently honor student voice
** Track student and volunteer data in Salesforce, including attendance and program hours; track hours in the AmeriCorps system and follow BAYAC protocols
** Actively participate in 826 Valencia meetings, performance appraisal systems, and other work events to develop professional skills, gain a well-rounded experience of nonprofit work, and contribute to organization-wide initiatives
** Attend BAYAC AmeriCorps Team Days 2-3 times a month, plus all other required professional development BAYAC activities, including Days of Service with regional cohort of youth educators
** Complete an optional learning project on an area of interest that meets an organizational need and/or participate in an optional 826 Valencia Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee 
** Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

** High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree preferred)
** Prior work or volunteer experience with youth from under-resourced communities (preferred)
** Able to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols while in Writing Centers, at schools sites, or at work events
** Able to complete the BAYAC application, a background check and Tuberculosis screening, and provide documentation of status as a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident 
** We will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records, but cannot host any service member with a record that includes a conviction of a serious or violent felony, sexual offense, or controlled substance offense
** Facility with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom (preferred)
** Any fluency level in spoken and/or written Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic (preferred)
** Familiarity or ties with the communities that 826 Valencia serves

** Strong organizational skills and adaptability; able to handle multiple tasks and contribute to a variety of projects at once

** Able to manage stressors during the year of service and communicate needs proactively to supervisor
 

OTHER DETAILS

This 11-month AmeriCorps service position lasts from August 19, 2024, to July 15, 2025, through the Bay Area Youth Agency Consortium (BAYAC). Programs Associates are not 826 Valencia employees and they serve on a full-time basis (40+ hours per week, Monday to Friday), with some evening or weekend hours. Schedules vary depending on the specific role. Programs Associates are based out of one of our three Writing Centers in San Francisco, some roles with substantial time at various school sites. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area,  and be able to work in an open-office environment where there may be substantial ambient noise and overheard conversations.

 

BENEFITS THROUGH BAY AREA COMMUNITY RESOURES (BACR)

** $2,727 monthly living allowance that does not affect eligibility for work-study, any other federal student aid, or other federal need-based programs such as food stamps, Section 8 housing, or public housing 
** $10,000 combined education award granted upon completing a year of service (1,700 hours), to be used on college, trade school, or other educational expenses
** Forbearance on most existing student loans (AmeriCorps members do not have to make any payments while in service). 
** Upon successful completion of the service term, the National Service Trust will pay the interest that accrued on any student loans during the service year

Filoli invites artists and artisans to exhibit and sell their artwork at this year’s Art Walk event. Set amongst the rolling foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Filoli’s Garden offers a stunning backdrop for a wide variety of wares. This event is open to the public, features food and beverages for sale, and is included in the cost of admission. Last year, Art Walk attracted over 4,000 visitors across the weekend, and tickets have sold out every year to date.

Our goal is for Art Walk to represent the diverse styles, artistry, and creativity of the entire Bay Area community and as such Filoli highly encourages applications from BIPOC artists and artisans whose work represents their personal culture and experience. We will have approximately 40-45 artists for this year’s event.

Job Summary
The Finance & Operations Manager (FOM) manages the day-to-day business and administrative functions of the organization. The FOM provides leadership in the areas of finance and budgeting, human resources, strategic planning and implementation, technology, marketing, and communications.
 
Reports to the President & Artistic Director

Responsibilities
– In concert with the President & Artistic Director (PAD), manages YMCO’s operating budget. Coordinates the organization’s annual budget process. Monitors, provides analysis, and reports on financial performance. Works with an outside accounting firm on financial reports.
– Manages payroll and accounting functions.
– Implements and evaluates the strategic plan, with the PAD and the Board of Directors.
– Supports the Development Manager and PAD in Foundation and Corporate Solicitation, Grant Management and Reporting.
– Provides support for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with the Artistic Director, Development Manager, and Board members.
– Drafts agendas, financial reports, and supporting materials for Board of Directors meetings. Drafts minutes for review and finalization by the President & Artistic Director and the Chair of the Board.
– Collaborates with the President & Artistic Director on managing salary and benefits for staff and faculty.
– Manages marketing and communications activities addressing students, families, school and community partners, and donors, including print and digital materials.
– Manages YMCO’s technology needs, including the donor database, student and faculty records, security, accounting, and payment systems.
– Manages and implements human resource programs and policies. Coordinates all searches and hiring for YMCO.
– Manages facility needs, including negotiating space leases and facility rentals with partner organizations.
 
 
Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in arts management, nonprofit administration, or a related field.
– 5-7 years in management of nonprofit organizations, especially in performing arts or education.
– Extensive experience in managing budgets and financial systems.
– Passion for working with youth through YMCO’s mission.
– Skilled at working as part of a team in a small, nimble organization.
– Demonstrated leadership capacity and the ability to manage and motivate staff.
– Experience in fund development or managing the function, and working with donors.
– Experience with staff recruitment, management, and implementing HR policies.
– Skilled at managing marketing and communications with outside consultants.
– Experience with technology, donor databases, security, fundraising software, and digital communications systems.
– Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Job Summary
The Development Manager’s primary responsibility is to plan and executive a program to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and funders to YMCO to support the educational programs and mission.

The Development Manager is a frontline fundraiser who will work with a range of donors, individual and institutional, to build the organization’s activities and systems to support a thriving philanthropic program. The Development Manager will work closely with the Finance & Operations Manager and President & Artistic Director.

Reports to the President & Artistic Director

Responsibilities
– Develop, manage, execute, and evaluate strategies for YMCO’s philanthropic programs.
– Work collaboratively with the President & Artistic Director, Finance & Operation Manager, the Board of Directors, YMCO staff, the faculty, alums, and parents to fulfill philanthropic goals and objectives.
– Carefully steward, renew, and upgrade current donors and funders, demonstrating to them the impact of their gifts.
– Identify new donors and funder prospects and develop individualized strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
– Manage the overall development operations, including the donor database and online giving technologies, to ensure that gifts are processed and acknowledged appropriately, and provide needed reports and analysis.
– Create and execute donor communications, including event invitations, newsletters, emails, and other connection opportunities.
– Manage revenue and expense budgets and handle regular reconciliations with finance.
– Use a variety of techniques and approaches to build relationships with and solicit donors.
– Organize volunteers and Board Members to work effectively with staff to build donor relationships.
– Create and execute fundraising and cultivation events for donors and prospects.
– Enhance the visibility of the organization in the community and represent the organization at key community and school-based events.
– Work with the President & Artistic Director, and Finance & Operations Manager to build an alum relations program that enhances philanthropic and outreach activities.
– Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
 
Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
– 5–7 years of experience working in all areas of fund development, preferably with experience in educational institutions or performing arts organizations.
– Expertise in working with individual and major donors, foundations and corporate supporters, and government agencies.
– Passion for working with youth through YMCO’s mission.
– Experienced with developing, managing, and reporting on budgets.
– Demonstrated success in developing and implementing short- and long-term activities measured against clear goals and objectives.
– Excellent project management skills and comfortability in managing multiple projects with different timelines.
