As a local non-profit leader, we support the growth and development of the arts in Laguna Beach and produce two world-renowned events: The Festival of Arts Fine Art Show and the Pageant of the Masters. Under the supervision of the wardrobe director, this position provides assistance in the construction of all costuming in the wardrobe department for the Pageant of the Masters.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

· Assemble costumes by sewing pieces together. Responsible for draping, patterning, and cutting of costumes.

· Conducts fittings for volunteer performers.

· Constructs costumes and makes alterations as needed.

· Maintains a clean, organized and safe work place.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Strong sewing skills. Experience with alterations and knowledge of garment construction required.

· Must be able to use an industrial sewing machine and be able to use patterns to cut out garments.

· Must be able to drape knit garments, have knowledge of different fabrics and materials.

· Attention to detail.

· Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and strong collaborative and communication skills.

· Ability to work with multiple and competing production deadlines.

· Experience in a theatrical environment preferred but no required.

· Must be able to walk up and down stairs and meet the other physical demands of the job including standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting/moving objects up to 20 lbs. Color vision is required in order to correctly determine the color needed.

POSITION PURPOSE:

A.C.T.’s renowned Young Conservatory is seeking a highly organized full-time arts administrator and friendly program ambassador to join our team as the Young Conservatory Programs Associate. Working as a core member of the Young Conservatory (YC) team, this person will play a front-facing role in cultivating relationships with our YC families as well as maintaining administrative systems to keep the YC programs running smoothly. This position will work closely with the Young Conservatory Director, and YC Associate Programs Manager. This position will fundamentally provide on-site support during program operations for class registrations, open classes, auditions, rehearsals and performances, while also offering independent on-site and off-site administrative work.

 

SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time job, and scheduling will change based on YC programming throughout the season. This role requires a majority of on-site work while programming is happening at 30 Grant (25-30 hours/week), with opportunity for partial remote work during programming off seasons.

  • September–May: Typical schedule will be 9:00am-6:00pm Tuesday-Friday (hybrid), and Saturdays while classes are in session (in-person), with some weeknights typically ending by 7:00pm.
  • June–August: Typical schedule will be Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm (in-person). The role during the Summer will be focused on in-person Summer Session camp programming.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with in-person programming:
  • o   Welcome students on first day of classes, rehearsals or private coaching.
  • o   Greet guests on final open class days and some performances/special events.
  • o   Update and print class materials, faculty folders, contact/attendance sheets and class wait lists.
  • o   Facilitate faculty and student evaluation materials.
  • o   Troubleshoot student and faculty needs during class operations.
  • Monitor the general Young Conservatory email inbox and cultivate positive relationships with families, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Administrate and track class enrollment–including adjusting accounts, creating orders and taking payments–using A.C.T.’s ticketing software (Tessitura).
  • Draft faculty class assignments, attendance rosters and contact sheets.
  • Support the audition process for all YC productions and performance opportunities, including sign-ups, audition and callback registration and materials, and liaison with Artistic and Production teams.
  • Support YC marketing efforts in collaboration with the Conservatory Marketing Manager: Creation and distribution of physical and digital promotional collateral.
  • Collect and organize new and old digital content; including photos and video.
  • Assist with the creation and execution of content creation and social media calendar.
  • Facilitate small committee of student social media liaisons.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new and returning students with personalized outreach to faculty, parents, and students.

STARTING SALARY

Part-time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $1,968 and $3,047 per semester per 10% load.

 

Part-time faculty with non-classroom assignments are paid between $2,625 and $4,065 per semester per 10% load.

 

Part-time faculty salaries are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers, AFT, Local 1828, AFL-CIO and the Ventura County Community College District. About Pasadena Playhouse

Pasadena Playhouse, the official State Theater of California and recipient of the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award, is internationally recognized for its significant role in the development of American theater. Position Overview
Pasadena Playhouse seeks a seasoned and relationship-driven gift officer to serve as our Legacy Giving Specialist. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this is a flexible, part-time position that will work approximately 8-16 hours per week. The position will focus on cultivating and stewarding current and likely legacy donors—particularly those who have responded to our legacy giving survey in Fall 2025—while guiding them through the process of documenting their estate commitments.

The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of legacy giving strategies, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to build trust quickly with donors. Familiarity with the Pasadena philanthropic community is highly preferred.

Goals and Metrics
Over the course of six months, a successful employee in this position will conduct 2-3 in-person donor visits per week; recruit 10-20 new members of the Gilmor Brown Society; and document $500,000 to $1 million in new bequest expectancies for Pasadena Playhouse. 
Key Responsibilities
Secure and conduct one-on-one meetings with current and prospective bequest donors to cultivate, solicit, and steward legacy gifts.

Engage and follow up with survey respondents and other identified prospects to assess interest and readiness to formalize estate plans.

Provide donors with appropriate information about planned giving options and the benefits of joining the Gilmor Brown Legacy Society.

Support donors in documenting their commitments and completing necessary paperwork.

Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and broader development team to track outreach, progress, and results.

Represent the Playhouse with warmth, discretion, and professionalism in all donor interactions.

Advise on the content and creation of related marketing materials, stewardship events, donor communications, and other activities supporting the growth of the Playhouse’s community of legacy donors.

Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of experience in major gifts, planned giving, or related development work.

Demonstrated success in cultivating and closing legacy commitments.

Strong understanding of planned giving vehicles and estate planning concepts; expertise in complex giving instruments is a plus, but not required.

Strong emotional intelligence and ability to build rapport and trust with diverse donors, particularly older adults.

Familiarity with the Pasadena philanthropic landscape is highly desirable.

Excellent communication, listening, and follow-through skills.

Self-directed, reliable, and comfortable working independently in a flexible part-time structure.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is $75–$95 per hour, commensurate with experience. This is a part-time, temporary position and is not eligible for benefits.

About the Opportunity

Union Arts Center (UAC) is the current title for a new producing organization formed by the merger of ACT Contemporary Theatre and Seattle Shakespeare Company, bringing a combined 100 years of creating vibrant, quality theatre to the Puget Sound region of Washington state. The new Artistic Director of this newly formed company will need to bring to the role the artistic entrepreneurship of a founder accompanied with the seasoned understanding and knowledge of an experienced leader. UAC seeks an AD to partner to Managing Director John Bradshaw to co-lead the company, and work with the Board and the Staff to articulate a compelling vision for the dynamic organization emerging from the energies of the previous companies.

 

About Union Arts Center

In the spring of 2025, both the ACT Contemporary Theatre (ACT) and the Seattle Shakespeare Company (SSC) Boards of Trustees approved the historic merger of these two venerable Seattle theatre companies, with an effective date of July 1, 2025.

This landmark decision came after an extensive deliberation and planning process that included incorporating valuable input from staff, donors, community members, and working committees. Since July 1, much has been accomplished for the newly formed Union Arts Center, under the direction of Managing Director John Bradshaw (formerly Executive Director of Seattle Shakespeare) and Interim Artistic Director Elisabeth Farwell-Morland, and supported by the exceptional staff made up of team members from both companies. An initial Board of Trustees made up of seven members from each of the originating company’s boards was formed; a new season of plays was planned, budgeted, announced, and launched; and a search committee was formed to conduct the search for the new Artistic Director. The Board and staff are looking forward to continuing the exciting work of crafting and articulating the UAC’s Mission, Vision and Values under the leadership of the new Artistic Director in partnership with John Bradshaw. Union Arts Center’s home is the historic Eagles Auditorium Building, a 13-story building located in downtown Seattle. On the Registry of National Historic Places, the building has been the home of ACT since 1996. Completed in 1925, the building now has three primary stages, The Allen Theatre which accommodates 434 seats in the round, The Falls Theatre which seats 409, and The Eulalie Scandiuzzi Space which accommodates 75 seated patrons; the multi-purpose Bullitt Cabaret which seats up to 150 theatre patrons; and several other elegant event spaces which UAC counts among its earned revenue opportunities. UAC shares the building with Bellwether Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing entity; UAC owns and occupies 80% of the building. UAC is governed by an elected Board of Trustees; there are currently fourteen members led by Cynthia Huffman. UAC operates under LORT C & D contracts.

Job Description

The Artistic Director serves as equal co-executive of Union Arts Center, in partnership with the Managing Director, both reporting to the Board of Directors. Together, the Managing Director and Artistic Director are responsible for ensuring Union Arts Center carries out its programming and broader mission within a financially sustainable business model. The Artistic Director also forms the vision for the company’s artistic development and provides leadership in the collaborative process to determine Union Arts Center’s artistic direction. The Artistic Director serves as the artistic voice and face of the company, bringing a holistic perspective of supporting the people within the organization while upholding the theatre’s commitment to artistic excellence. This position includes being a passionate and inspiring lead spokesperson for the theatre to the larger community. The Artistic Director oversees the Director of Production, Artistic Associate, Education Manager, and Casting Director. Additional supervision is provided to the General Manager, in partnership with the Managing Director.

Roles and Responsibilities

Artistic Leadership
● Provide strategic and innovative artistic leadership to guide and support Union Arts Center’s artistic direction, in partnership with the Managing Director and Board of Trustees
● Develop artistic programming and projects true to Union Arts Center mission, vision, and values
● Lead a curation process for season selection and other programming decisions that upholds the theatre’s commitment to diversity and equity
● Support an equitable and inclusive working environment, ensuring all cast, crew, and staff are held to consistent standards for conduct and treatment of others
● Oversee the production process of all theatre productions and related projects, including New Works Northwest commissions
● Develop and actively cultivate professional relationships with theatre artists and the larger theatre community
● Oversee the Education department and related efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational strategic goals
● Serve as an engaging and approachable community representative of Union Arts Center, cultivating external relationships to support the theatre’s ongoing meaningful integration in the arts community
● Oversee all external messaging in partnership with the Managing Director to ensure consistent brand development and management, and a cohesive artistic vision, through advertising, public relations, and fundraising materials
● Maintain an active, consistent presence in the community to represent and advocate for Union Arts Center as well as the wider artistic community
● Participate in Inclusivity Working Group (a committee composed of staff, Board, and Core Company Artists) initiatives and meetings while consistently championing genuine and meaningful organizational and individual commitments to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging in all institutional practices and processes Organizational Leadership
● Partner with the Managing Director to develop a multi-year strategic plan that capitalizes on the merger between ACT & Seattle Shakespeare Company and the opportunities it presents for the organization and wider artistic community
● Actively promote the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and belonging to ensure tangible and sustained efforts are made throughout the organization to build an organizational culture that nurtures goodwill, inclusion and empowerment
● Act as an integral executive leader in fundraising efforts, guiding Development staff in donor cultivation and ensuring a strong and cohesive artistic narrative in all communications
● Work closely with the Managing Director to lead ethical, accurate, and integrated budget preparation processes (annual budget as well as short- and long-range forecasts), using innovative and sound fiscal methods
● Help guide the integration of performance management processes including annual reviews and periodic check-in’s, utilizing best practices for delivering and receiving feedback
● Lead intentional learning efforts, cultivating individual and organizational growth mindsets
● Participate in continuous process improvement for recruitment and hiring processes of artistic staff, using standardized approaches for decision-making
● Participate in weekly Senior Staff meetings, regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with direct reports; weekly check-in with Board Chair; and co-lead All Staff meetings as scheduled
● Participate in activities and meetings with the Board of Trustees
● Attend meetings of the Foundation Board

Preferred Qualifications / Skills
● Minimum of 5 years’ artistic leadership experience of a non-profit theatre, with demonstrated experience in bringing powerful and compelling artistic vision to fruition
● Commitment to creating genuine and meaningful community connections to deepen a theatre’s engagement and contributions to the larger community
● Extensive experience in successfully collaborating with diverse creative teams as an artistic leader
● An effective and compelling artistic and cultural ambassador, engaging with a wide variety of patrons, donors, and other community members
● Results and solution-oriented leadership approach with effective, inspiring communication
● Experience in developing and leading diverse and engaged creative and administrative teams
● Ability to attend performances and events on a regular basis to act as a Union Arts Center spokesperson with the community, including on evenings and weekends
● Willingness to routinely partner and collaborate with the Managing Director to co-lead Union Arts Center in a manner consistent with its mission, vision, and values
● Highly skilled in receiving and delivering feedback while demonstrating a growth mindset
● Flexible, adaptable, organized, and inclusive presence to support these cultural components of the organization
● The ability to move creative ideas to specific plans, with clear communication with others
● Willingness to fully engage in periodic performance reviews with Board oversight
● Ability to complete a background check, in accordance with Washington’s Fair Chance Act

Compensation

Theater Chair

California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA), in collaboration with the CSSSA Board of Trustees, announces a Request for Applications (RFA) for the Theater Chair position. The Theater Chair is an annually contracted position that oversees CSSSA’s academic programming of the Theater Department. The Theater Chair develops and implements curriculum, courses, and pedagogy, and may also instruct courses within the department. For a complete list of duties please see the Scope of Work Section below.

Program Overview
Enabling legislation, Chapter 1131 of 1985, established the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) to provide a training ground for future artists who may wish to study and practice the arts, or to pursue careers in the major performing arts companies and commercial and fine arts institutions in California. CSSSA offers pre-professional training to approximately 500 talented and gifted high school students each summer. The 2026 hosting site will be announced before finalists are interviewed for the Theater Chair position. CSSSA offers seven disciplines, including Animation, Dance, Film, Music, Theater, Visual Arts, and Writing. The 2026 summer session runs from July 4 to August 1.

Eligible Applicants
CSSSA welcomes theater professionals with broad ranging skills and experiences in the arts and arts education. Artists with professional theater careers, educators, interdisciplinary artists, and more are welcome to apply. The Theater Chair shall not be subject to credentialing requirements or any other restrictions upon eligibility for employment generally applicable to public school instructors. Qualifications
• Undergraduate or advanced degree in the department’s discipline, or related field and/or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 5 years of teaching experience, preferably with some experience working with high school age students.
• Sustained record of creative / professional practice in the theater industry.
• Knowledge of cutting-edge trends in arts education as well as opportunities in the creative industries for young artists.
• Skills and expertise in multiple genres of the theater discipline.
• Ability to work creatively and effectively with diverse students of varying levels and demographics.
• Demonstrated experience with and commitment to cultural and economic diversity in arts education.

Scope of Work
The Theater Chair will be contracted to provide the following services:
• Recruit and hire faculty and teaching assistants as assigned by CSSSA’s Board of Trustees.
• Ensure that the CSSSA contract analyst has complete contract information for each of the department’s hires.
• Review student applications and participate in the selection of students.
• Manage the scheduling of student and faculty class schedules and develop course rosters.
• Create detailed supply orders for the entire department with estimates from competing vendors.
• Develop and oversee the department’s curriculum, including courses, schedule, and pedagogy.
• Participate in the program set-up and tear-down before and after the session.
• Reside on campus during the summer session and supervise the work of full-time faculty, part-time faculty, teaching assistants, and visiting artists while the program is in session.
• Instruct courses and chair faculty meetings.
• Conduct pre-CSSSA webinars for student recruitment and theater department orientation.
• Monitor student academic / artistic progress, as well as department policies for obtaining college credits.
• Work with faculty and CSSSA staff to resolve student conduct, and other student affairs issues.
• Work with other department chairs and faculty to develop an interdisciplinary and/or multi-disciplinary program.
• Follow and uphold CSSSA’s policies and procedures as outlined, including those in the Faculty / Staff Handbook.

Contract Status
The Department Chairs are paid on a contractual basis and are not considered state employees. The contract is preset by CSSSA. The contract amount is a comparable level set by the California State University System. The Theater Chair will report directly to the Director of CSSSA. The contract starting date will be immediately upon hire to begin planning for the 2026 session. The position is part-time during the planning stages of the Scope of Work and is full-time for the duration of the summer session. The contract salary is a one-time payment of $12,600. This includes all aspects of the Scope of Work. Payment is made by check and is received within 45 days following the session.

Selection Process
Section 8955 of the California Education Code requires that faculty of the CSSSA Program be annually selected, subject to the final approval of the Director of CSSSA, and by the CSSSA Board of Trustees, upon consultation with a faculty selection panel convened by the CSSSA Board for that purpose. The faculty selection panel shall be composed of professional artists and arts educators, selected to be broadly representative of the schools, institutions, arts organizations, artists, colleges, and universities located throughout the state. Members of the CSSSA Board of Trustees may serve on the faculty selection panel but shall comprise no more than one-third of any faculty selection panel. Upon review of submitted applications by the Selection Committee, select candidates will be contacted for an interview. The Selection Committee may request a second interview or additional materials for review by the CSSSA Board of Trustees before the final candidate is determined. The Theater Chair shall be chosen for their excellence in artistic production, direction, and teaching ability.
