Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station
The Arts and Culture Commission of the City of Glendale is requesting proposals from creative artists to temporarily display a unique installation in the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station (ASMPGS). The City’s Community Services & Parks Department (CSP) owns the ASMPGS, a historic 1936 Streamline Modern Gas Station building listed on the Glendale Register of Historic Resources. Art is displayed on a rotational basis in the ASMPGS and submissions are ongoing.
This Call For Submissions is for art installations at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station.
- Artists whose work is chosen for installation at the ASMPGS will receive a stipend of $1,000 in addition to a production budget of up to $1,500 for a total maximum stipend of $2,500.
The Gas Station is located at the Adams Square Mini Park, 1020 East Palmer Avenue, Glendale CA 91205. The Gas Station is 12’x12’x12′ cube, with acrylic windows. There are two doors, two electrical outlets and a timer. Items can be hung from the ceiling.
Art installations at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station are sponsored by the Glendale Arts and Culture Commission and the Community Services & Parks Department.
Collections Curator
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.
Reporting to the Vice President of Curatorial Affairs, and working in collaboration with the Department of Registration, Collection Management and Preservation, the Collections Curator will be responsible for the stewardship and further development of the museum collection responding to the Academy Museum’s mission. In collaboration with the Collection Management team, the incumbent assesses digitization strategies and policies of accessibility. Additional duties include the conceptualization and realization of museum programs including exhibitions as well as advising and participating in interpretive initiatives that relate to the collection. You will also engage the public and disseminate knowledge on the Academy Collection through exhibitions, digital initiatives, publications, lectures, gallery talks, and other public programs.
You Will:
- Be responsible for the development of the Academy Museum’s collection and long-term collection strategies.
- Be responsible for conducting research relevant to the understanding, use, loan, display, and care of works of art and material culture in the collection.
- Assure proper identification or authentication, documentation, conservation, and interpretation of works in the collection.
- Collaborate with Collection Management in developing access policy to the collection.
- Initiate and maintain contacts with filmmakers, collectors, auction houses, scholars, curators, critics, authors, and other colleagues in the field.
- Support curators in finding lenders, oversee, and manage loan offers database.
- Identify objects for potential acquisition in auctions and from private and institutional sources.
- Research provenance of objects or oversee consultant on provenance research.
- Recommend new acquisitions to the Museum director and the senior curatorial team and participate in Academy wide acquisition and Museum collection meetings.
- Administer and lead the decision-making process for purchases and donations to the Museum collection.
- Prepare materials related to potential acquisitions.
- Work with Registration and Collections Management to prepare lists of objects to be accessioned for presentation to the Collections & Exhibitions Committee and Museum Board of Trustees.
- Participate in the deaccessioning process.
- Manage acquisition budget.
- Propose and curate exhibitions on different scales inspired by the collection.
- Collaborate on the selection, presentation, and installation of exhibitions and projects.
- Select collections objects for photography and digitization and develops long-term digital and digitization projects in relation to the Museum’s collection.
- Seek collaborations with other major national and international collections.
- Work on public programs related to the collection to create lecture series, symposia, conferences, collaborations, and other innovative interpretive programs geared for a wide range of audiences.
- Collaborate with Development staff to cultivate individuals, corporations, and foundations that may donate funds and/or goods and services in support of the Museum’s programs.
- Collaborate with Retail staff to develop products drawing on the collection.
- Manage junior curatorial staff and freelance staff.
You Have:
- A master’s degree in film studies, museum studies, or related subject; Ph.D. preferred.
- 8+ years of experience at a museum or another comparable institution with a collection.
- Substantial knowledge of film history and preferably also contacts in the film industry.
- Demonstrated experience in managing staff.
- Demonstrated experience working with a museum or a private collection.
- Demonstrated experience in curating exhibitions.
- Knowledge and experience with digital projects and databases.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail with excellent follow-through.
- Great ability for collaborative and collegiate working methods.
- Proficiency in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, and a collection management database.

The expected base salary range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Program Operations Specialist – Greystone Mansion & Gardens
The City of Beverly Hills is looking for versatile Program Operations Specialists (RPT) to assist with a variety of programs at Greystone Mansion & Gardens: The Doheny Estate.
This position will work with the rental event program at Greystone, including responding to inquiries, offering venue tours, ensuring site and City policies are followed, monitoring paperwork and deadlines, and being present at events as needed. They will assist with City programs at Greystone, including welcoming visitors, program delivery, and providing tours of the mansion and grounds using accurate historical information. They will help oversee events in the theatre, including running basic A/V, sound, and lighting, box office, usher, and assist performers. They will have the ability to work with a wide range of people and demonstrate strong customer services skills with colleagues, community members, the general public, partner organizations, City staff, Commissioners, and City Councilmembers. They will possess the ability to work collaboratively and a willingness to calmly resolve situations as they arise. This position requires walking on stairs and uneven surfaces such as slate, being mobile for extended periods of time (including standing and walking), and working at a computer.

We are looking to commission artists for our project, Redline Redefined.

Thingamajigs is looking to commission artists living in formerly redlined neighborhoods to create audio and visual pieces that investigates, explores, and narrates the cruel history and lasting effects of redlining.
Pieces will live on our interactive map.
We started Redline Redefined in Oakland and Berkeley and are expanding our project to include more artists and locations.

Thingamajigs is an artists non-profit looking to hire teaching artists for a myriad of programs we have: Thingamakids!, Community Workshops, and Jump StArt. We received funding from the California Arts Council and the City of Oakland.
Community Workshops in 2023:
Lead your own community workshop at Shapeshifters Cinema in Oakland, CA.
Usually a one off workshop, but can discuss longer ones as well
These should be more casual and fun for workshop attendees.
Can be sound, art, or maker inspired

Create and lead your own music and art workshops for system impacted youth
Could be a one time workshop, or a short series.

Thingamakids! Workshops in 2024:
Workshops will happen in OUSD schools during school hours.
We are looking for visual or sound artists to lead in-school workshops with students 4th-7th grade. Artists will go into the classroom as a pair (one visual artist, one sound artist) to design and create a sound sculpture with the students. These sculptures will be then displayed at the end of the school year, with all the other schools.
Must be able to travel and work in Oakland.
In-School residency will last between 1 month to 2 months.
Sometime between February-May 2024.
Public showcase in May 2024.
