Project Description

Westwind Brass requests General Operating Support to sustain its mission during San Diego’s FY26 fiscal crisis. Funds will support professional artist fees, administrative staffing, and travel to deliver 50+ free annual programs for historically under-resourced communities.

Key initiatives include the Public Commons: Parks Series and Library Sound Discovery Initiative, which restore cultural access to neighborhoods facing city-funded service cuts. We will provide 20 Youth Empowerment assemblies for Title I schools to bridge the $47M district music-funding gap, and a Senior Center Series utilizing “Reminiscence Therapy” for isolated elders. Additionally, specialized VA Medical Center performances provide therapeutic support for San Diego’s Veterans. By centering equity and accessibility, Westwind Brass removes economic barriers to the arts, fostering community resilience and well-being through professional brass performances for those most impacted by current regional budget deficits.

Through our outreach programs, our goal is to not only help provide a well-rounded education for children and create a healthier community, but also, by offering students the chance to participate in this learning process, we help build the future arts audience.

WWB strives to achieve its mission by building and satisfying a worldwide following of dedicated individual and organizational supporters, professional peers, music educators, and public audiences that: (a) organize, stage and attend concerts of outstanding classical and contemporary brass chamber music; (b) encourage instructional presentations and discussions of brass chamber music; (c) stimulate and foster creation, research and presentation- both live and recorded- of brass chamber music of the highest artistic and professional quality.
