With California Arts Council support, Redwood Arts Council will bring professional chamber musicians from our Season Concert Series into K–12 schools across western Sonoma County—prioritizing under‑resourced and multilingual campuses. Grant funds will cover artist fees, travel, housing, meals, and program materials to enable extended school visits that include interactive assemblies, instrument demonstrations, culturally responsive mini‑performances, and master classes. These free, in‑school experiences introduce students—many of whom lack access to live music—to acoustic instruments, diverse musical traditions, and pathways to continued musical engagement.
Redwood Arts provides 6 to 8 concerts a year in small venues with accessibility and excellent acoustics. Ticket prices are $35-40 for adults, $10 for students and $0 for children with parents. The concert series is sustained by ticket sales and generous donors. In contrast, school budgets are bereft of support for providing art exposure. Grants, such as this, are necessary to fund this mission. We pay all the expenses to host visiting musicians for school assemblies at elementary and middle schools introducing classical instruments and music to the students, and ‘master class’ tutoring of music students in schools that are fortunate to have bands or sponsor music ensembles.
