Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, the Gala Pride & Diversity Center (GPDC) will expand our LGBTQ+-specific artistic events with a specific focus on Art After Dark programming, a free year-round arts initiative in San Luis Obispo County and additional. Through monthly exhibitions, artist honoraria, community-curated programming, poetry workshops, film screenings, and multidisciplinary performances, GPDC addresses the lack of affirming and financially accessible creative spaces for LGBTQIA+ people on the Central Coast. Grant funds will support a curatorial stipend for program curator Daniel Montoya, honoraria for exhibiting artists, and expanded community arts programming rooted in social connection, visibility, and cultural equity. GPDC prioritizes California LGBTQ+ artists, emerging creatives, and low- to no-cost public participation while maintaining an equitable model in which artists retain 70% of artwork sales.
