The David’s Harp Foundation’s core programs and services provide a relationship-centered creative youth development pathway for opportunity youth, including young people impacted by juvenile justice, foster care, homelessness, poverty, and educational disruption.

The Student Studio is often the first point of connection. Youth gain access to professional music production, songwriting, recording, podcasting, and media arts instruction. Through creative projects, Artist Mentors build trust, support emotional expression, and help young people develop confidence, collaboration, and a positive sense of identity.

Beats Behind the Wall brings this same creative and relational model inside juvenile detention facilities, including East Mesa and Kearny Mesa. Young people who are incarcerated participate in music production, songwriting, recording, digital arts, and storytelling. The program creates a safe space for youth to process their experiences, build skills, and be seen as artists, leaders, and creators rather than being defined by their charges or circumstances. Beats Beyond the Wall is the reentry continuation of this work, connecting youth to continued support, mentorship, and programming after release.

The Biz Pod is our creative workforce development program. Youth learn videography, photography, audio engineering, editing, design, project management, client communication, and entrepreneurship through paid work on real projects for nonprofit, corporate, and community partners. This helps young people build resumes, earn income, and access San Diego’s creative economy.

The Transformation House provides safe, supportive, family-style housing for young people who need a stable bridge into adulthood. Residents participate in David’s Harp programming while receiving mentorship, workforce support, life skills development, and preparation for independent living.

Together, these programs form a continuum of care that reaches youth inside institutions, welcomes them into community, and supports them as they create, heal, work, lead, and thrive.
