Seen & Heard’s core program is an arts-based, earn-and-learn cohort model for system-impacted youth in Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley, ages 16-24.
Across 18 weeks, youth participate in trauma-informed performing arts training that helps them build communication, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, self-expression, and confidence. The program uses writing, storytelling, performance, and other creative practices to help youth explore who they are, how they relate to others, and how they want to move through the world.
Our students move through a structured cohort experience that includes arts instruction, mentorship, community-building, and individualized support. As they progress, they develop their own creative work and participate in a public culmination event where they share an artistic project. That process helps students strengthen both their artistic voice and their ability to speak about themselves with clarity and confidence.
We serve young people who are often navigating foster care history, justice involvement, trafficking survival, housing instability, and other forms of systemic harm. Many are also BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and low-income. Because of that, who leads the room matters. Many of our instructors, managers, and alumni leaders come from the communities we serve or share meaningful lived experiences with participants. That helps create trust and makes the program feel grounded in real understanding.
Seen & Heard also provides a supportive community around the arts training itself. Students are given space to reflect, connect, practice, and grow in a setting built on care, cultural humility, and consistency. Our core service is not just access to arts learning. It is a structured creative community where young people can build skills they carry into school, work, relationships, and everyday life.
