Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, the San Fernando Valley Youth Chorus (SFVYC) will provide choral music education programming to young people, ages 3-18, helping young singers to flourish through high-quality choral training, mentorship, and community performance opportunities that build musical skills, self-confidence, and creative expression. SFVYC is an inclusive and vital community institution that serves 500+ children and teens yearly across the greater North Los Angeles region, bringing rigorous musicianship and inclusive access to young people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Parents know that a well-rounded education includes music. In addition to the cognitive benefits of studying music, children also learn cooperation, study skills, self-confidence and poise. For less than the cost of a single instrument or just a few private lessons, singers in the Valley Youth Chorus enjoy an entire year of musical training and performance opportunities. The SFVYC presents an educational and enriching experience for the young singers as well as their audiences. Our music education includes singing, moving, listening, creating and performing. Additionally, community outreach is a component of our curriculum, bringing choral music to schools, senior citizen centers, non-profit agency partners and civic events. The SFVYC also offers two Summer programs: Summer Jam – a safe, fun place for children to discover and create, and REALarts – artistic tools to use in real life.
