With support from the California Arts Council, RESOUNDING JOY INC will deliver free and reduced-cost music therapy and wellness programs to over 10,000 people across San Diego County. We use the power of music to reduce stress, support healing, and strengthen communities. Our four core programs—Sounds of Healing (children with disabilities and complex medical needs), Sounds of Service (Veterans and military families), Sounds of Legacy (older adults with dementia and hospice patients), and Sounds of Community (people in under-resourced communities)—offer group sessions, one-on-one therapy, and community music events.
Through these programs, we bring hope, connection, and joy to people often left out of traditional care. We envision a more inclusive world where everyone has equal access to the healing benefits of music therapy.
Resounding Joy delivers four core programs that provide a continuum of music engagement from clinical care to community-based wellness. Our Board-Certified Music Therapists (MT-BC) meet people where they are—serving individuals in hospitals, client homes, senior living communities, schools, community partner sites, our Music Wellness Center, and through virtual platforms—ensuring access, comfort, and connection.
Sounds of Healing supports children and families navigating medical, developmental, and emotional challenges. We serve children with chronic and acute conditions, developmental delays, autism, and other disabilities, as well as those experiencing grief, trauma, or end-of-life care. Through music, children and families find ways to express emotions, build coping skills, and experience moments of joy, connection, and relief during incredibly difficult times.
Sounds of Service improves the well-being of veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders. Through individual and group music-making—including guitar, drumming, songwriting, and shared musical experiences—participants work through PTSD, stress, pain, substance use, and suicide risk while rediscovering connection, identity, and a sense of purpose.
Sounds of Legacy engages older adults across the spectrum of aging, from active seniors experiencing isolation to individuals living with dementia, memory loss, and other age-related conditions. Music therapy sparks memory, supports communication, and creates meaningful moments of connection with caregivers and loved ones.
Sounds of Community expands access to music therapy and inclusive music experiences through partnerships with schools, libraries, parks, and community-based organizations—creating spaces where individuals can connect, express themselves, and feel a sense of belonging.
