The California Flute Revival is a series of Learning Days and Culmination Days organized by RTL, Lázaro Arvizu and Summer Wilson. At these free public workshops and concerts, attendees will make a California Flute from Blue elder and learn to play an Indigenous composition. Each workshop location will host three Flute Learning Days–crafting, tuning, and playing the flute, and a Culmination concert. Workshops include historically underserved locations in Greater Los Angeles. Participants will spend two to three hours in each workshop, and then enjoy storytelling and song from Tongva and Chumash elders. Culmination Day, the fourth event, will feature workshop members, Western classical players, and a guest world flute player. We believe these workshops will be empowering for attendees, and vital for the transmission of an Indigenous musical lineage that was nearly lost in California.
