Project Description

Project Color Corps (PCC) advances equity through arts education that empowers youth in underserved communities to build confidence, creativity, and self-expression through color and design. CAC funds will support an 8-week, hands-on Color and Design course delivered in partnership with schools, engaging students in learning color theory, emotional impact, and real-world application.

Led by professional artists and designers, students will explore how color shapes environment and well-being while developing practical skills to communicate ideas visually. The course emphasizes participatory learning, mentorship, and student voice, developing a visual diary to inform a culminating collaborative design or mural project that reflects their experiences and identity.

This investment will expand access to high-quality arts education, increase student engagement, and foster belonging and well-being—equipping youth with creative tools that support both personal growth and community connection.

Organization Summary

Project Color Corps (PCC) delivers school and community-based arts education programs in communities with limited access to arts resources, combining participatory design, mentorship, and public art creation. PCC evaluates each project to ensure alignment with its mission and potential for meaningful impact, working closely with school and community partners through site visits and needs assessments.

A core strength of PCC’s model is its ability to mobilize a robust network of professional artists, designers, muralists, businesses, and volunteers. Each project is guided by a dedicated project lead and supported by artist mentors, ensuring both high-quality artistic outcomes and strong community engagement.

PCC’s signature process actively engages youth and community members at every stage. Participants contribute ideas through color surveys and outreach, then deepen their learning in interactive color seminars that explore color theory and its impact on well-being. Professional artists translate this input into design concepts, which are selected through a transparent community voting process.

Implementation is hands-on: students, families, and volunteers work alongside artists during Community Paint Days, gaining practical skills while bringing their shared vision to life. Projects culminate in a public unveiling that celebrates community voice, cultural identity, and collective achievement.

PCC integrates arts education throughout its work, equipping youth with creative skills, confidence, and real-world application. Through partnerships with schools and community organizations, students are positioned as co-creators—actively shaping spaces that reflect their identities, experiences, and aspirations.
