Pointeworks has three interrelated core programs and services:

Mainstage Productions: Pointeworks creates and presents mixed repertory productions of classic, contemporary, and new ballets for our home base of San Diego. Our productions are scheduled during periods that are otherwise off-season for professional ballet dancers working at premier companies around the country and world, providing additional employment opportunities when there would otherwise be none. We are also committed to paying our dancers on the high-end of the established pay scale, and paying our female dancers at the same rate as our male dancers (not the typical approach of U.S.-based companies). Pointeworks also focuses on showcasing work of female-identifying choreographers and composers, with live music performance. We are also committed to providing at least 20% of seats free-of-charge to underserved communities through our organizational partners, serving K-12/college public school students, U.S. military veterans, and dance schools.

Residencies: Pointeworks develops new ballet works by commissioning choreographers and composers to create together via iterative processes. Our one- and two-week residencies provide creators (with an emphasis on female-identifying artists) with studio space, dancers, and live musicians. They take place in San Diego, Los Angeles, and New York City, with community events and digital content to engage and educate the public.

Community Engagement: Pointeworks is dedicated to providing access and insight into ballet’s creation and production processes. Our in-person programming, scheduled in alignment with our mainstage productions and residencies, includes open rehearsals, master classes (to learn our repertory), “meet the artists” panels, salons, pre-performance lectures from our commissioned creators, and more. All of these events are either a pay-what-you-can model or with extremely low ticket prices in order to eliminate financial barriers for participant/audience engagement. Pointeworks also operates a high-touch mentorship program for young, pre-professional Southern California ballet dancers, free-of-charge.
