With support from the California Arts Council, The Musical Theatre Guild will continue its mission to preserve and celebrate the original American art form of Musical Theatre through performances, outreach, and educational programs that engage and inspire the greater Southern California community. Funding will be used to support artists’ salaries.
In 1995, a small group of working professional singers and actors met to create a guild for musical theatre artists; a forum where members could showcase their creative talents and present seldom produced musicals as a preservation for this unique American art form.
Now in its 30th season, and based on the high quality of its work, MTG has earned the first producing rights to present the works of many musical theatre masters, including Stephen Sondheim, Adam Guettel, Andrew Lippa, Jason Robert Brown, and Ahrens and Flaherty.
Their tandem mission of exposing new audiences to this original American art form has led them to a partnership with the Music Center of Los Angeles Education Division with three in-school assemblies that uses musical theatre as a teaching tool, and an outreach program that affords local high school students free tickets to their main stage concerts.
