Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Mezzanine Film Inc. will strengthen our organization’s year-round public programming and administrative capacity, both in support of our annual Los Angeles Festival of Movies and of Mezzanine’s regular public film programs. These funds will support paying screening rights, artist honorariums and venue rentals; one part-time year-round staff position focused on organizational operations, artist and community engagement, and festival coordination; as well as 1–2 seasonal support positions during our peak festival planning and production periods. The CAC grant will help us sustain accessible cultural programming, expand organizational stability, and improve our ability to serve filmmakers, artists, and audiences throughout the year.

Organization Summary

We organize and host 40+ screenings and talks throughout the year at a range of venues across Los Angeles, including 2220 Arts + Archives, Vidiots, Brain Dead Studios, Now Instant Image Hall and others. Our events always exhibit local premieres of restorations and new independent films. In April, we organize the Los Angeles Festival of Movies, a curated annual film festival that showcases new independent and restoration premieres to a local audience. We also produce risograph zines and printed program notes for our events.
