With support from the California Arts Council, ORCHESTRA NOVA LA (DBA for Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra) will, as its central goal, make free concerts fiscally sustainable. We initiated these in 2025, and audience size is up 50-100%, so free concerts serve many who otherwise wouldn’t experience the healing power of music. Ticket sales previously provided 20-25% of ONLA revenue so a substantial budget hole must be filled on an ongoing basis, through increased fundraising from both public and private sources.

A second goal is performing more non-public-domain works, which broaden our audience but require significant fees. Potential works include Valerie Coleman’s “Seven O’Clock Shout,” Nina Shekhar’s “Lumina,” John Adams’ “The Chairman Dances,” Jennifer Higdon’s “Blue Cathedral,” “Huapango” by Jose Moncayo, and “The Oak” by Florence Price.
