Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, Kern River Valley Arts Association will expand year-round arts programming by increasing workshops, youth programs and community events by 20-30%, growing from 12-15 programs to 18-20 annually and increasing participation from 120-150 to 160-200 individuals.
This expansion will prioritize California Indigenous communities, including Tubatulabal, Kawaiisu, Yokuts and Chumash ancestry and individuals with disabilities, including neurodiverse youth and those who are deaf or hard of hearing through targeted outreach, accessible programming and reduced cost participation in a rural region identified in the lowest decile of California’s Healthy Places Index.
Progress will be measured through participation registration, voluntary demographic tracking, attendance logs and post-program surveys, guided by “Art for all and all for Art.”
Organization Summary
Kern River Valley Arts Association delivers four core programs designed to expand access to arts education, creative expression, and community engagement throughout the Kern River Valley.
Arts and Education Center
The emphasis of this program is to teach art through hands-on-arts such as painting, sculpting, various crafts, photography, filmmaking and performance art.
Art Gallery
The emphasis of this program is to produce regular themed and juried art shows, displaying the work of a variety of artists in the Kern River Valley communities.
Public Art “Murals of the Valley”
The emphasis of this program is to produce and display murals on buildings throughout the Kern River Valley communities, such as hospitals, businesses and other public settings.
Arts and Crafts Festivals
The emphasis of this program is to produce at regular intervals, festivals which give local and visiting artists and crafters the opportunity to display and sell their work to a wide audience of local community members and visitors from other communities.
