ndigenous Regeneration advances the continuity of Kumeyaay cultural knowledge through community-rooted artistic practice, intergenerational learning, and land-based education. Our core programs sustain living Indigenous arts traditions by centering culture bearers and teaching artists as leaders in the transmission of knowledge across generations.

At the heart of our work is a multi-session cultural arts model grounded in Kumeyaay seasonal cycles and relationships to land. Through hands-on instruction, participants engage in traditional art forms including bird songs (musical arts), basketry, fiber arts, tool-making, regalia and adornment, and traditional medicine preparation. These practices are taught through direct observation, making, and repetition, maintaining standards of artistic excellence passed down within families and community.

Programs are delivered at the Richard Bugbee Land Relationship Center and in partnership with community sites, providing consistent access to land for harvesting, material preparation, and creative practice. Land functions as a cultural classroom where artistic expression, ecological knowledge, and community responsibility are inseparable.

Indigenous Regeneration also leads Cultural and Digital Storytelling initiatives that extend traditional arts into media and narrative forms. Through video documentation, language-based content, and community storytelling, participants engage in media arts that support cultural continuity and expand access for tribal members, including those living off-reservation.

Across all programs, engagement is intergenerational, supporting youth, adults, and elders in shared creative practice. Indigenous Regeneration also supports artists and culture bearers through residencies, stipends, and ongoing opportunities to lead, create, and share work, while public gatherings, demonstrations, and digital platforms extend access to these artistic practices across community and broader audiences. By sustaining artist-led instruction, land-based learning, and community access, Indigenous Regeneration operates as a critical cultural infrastructure organization, ensuring that Kumeyaay artistic traditions remain active, evolving, and accessible for future generations.
