Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, IGBO UNION will sustain and expand year-round, community-based arts programming from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, serving African diaspora communities in Northern California. Funds will support artist and instructor stipends, program coordination, venue rentals, and culturally specific materials for free and low-cost public programs. IGBO UNION will present multidisciplinary artistic programming, including traditional and contemporary Igbo music, dance, storytelling, fashion, and visual arts through its annual cultural festival, community workshops, and youth mentorship initiatives. These intergenerational programs will engage diverse audiences, strengthen cultural identity, and promote cross-cultural understanding. By increasing access to culturally relevant arts experiences, IGBO UNION will uplift underrepresented voices and foster an inclusive arts ecosystem across California.
