Project Description

HaGomel seeks operating support to sustain and expand expressive arts programming serving women impacted by sexual and other trauma. Facilitated in-person or virtually, to the public or through community partnerships, HaGomel delivers multi-modal workshops, integrating visual art, movement, meditation, writing, music, and theater.

Funding will support capacity building to expand program design, facilitation, outreach, evaluation, and accessibility. HaGomel prioritizes partnerships with community-based organizations to reach underserved populations, including survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, as well as the front-line staff and healers of organizations serving those populations. CAC support will strengthen HaGomel’s organizational infrastructure, deepen program quality, and increase the number of partnerships and workshops facilitated annually.

This investment ensures that participants have free and consistent access to creative healing spaces, fostering connection, resilience, and self-expression while advancing equity in arts access across diverse communities.

Organization Summary

HaGomel offers four types of expressive arts programs:

In-Person Public Workshops

In-person expressive arts workshops and retreats to attendees throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties. These workshops and retreats are designed for women who want to heal from past trauma and build community. We provide a safe, creative space to explore personal expression and connect with others through art, writing, movement, and reflection. Participants are guided by skilled facilitators who specialize in expressive arts practices through a trauma-informed lens, ensuring each session fosters empowerment, self-discovery, and restoration.

Virtual Public Workshops

Virtual workshops expand access to the healing arts by bringing expressive arts practices directly into participants’ homes. These online sessions explore a variety of themes—such as mindfulness, resilience, storytelling, and self-care—through the lens of the arts. Women from diverse locations can engage in interactive and supportive experiences that encourage healing, growth, and community, regardless of geographic barriers.

Community Partner Workshops

HaGomel collaborates with mission-driven organizations providing services to individuals healing from sexual and other trauma. Our community partners invite us to design multi-modal workshops tailored to the needs of their participants, constituents, or staff. Whether serving survivors of trauma, youth violence prevention programs, or their staff on the front lines of service, these workshops integrate creative tools for wellness, connection, and resilience. Each session is customized, ensuring it aligns with our partner’s mission and supports the specific needs and culture of their community.

Public Events

Beyond long-form workshops, HaGomel engages the wider community through participatory resource and advocacy events. At public gatherings—such as Denim Day—HaGomel leads collaborative arts activities that invite individuals to contribute their voices and creativity to collective works of art and personal take-home projects. Activating space at these events raises awareness around healing arts, community resilience, and justice, while fostering connection and empowerment for all who participate.
