Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Glenn County Arts & Culture (GCAC) will establish a new dedicated county arts agency for Glenn County, strengthening countywide access to arts and cultural participation. California Arts Council funds will support core organizational capacity, including leadership development, administration, community outreach, communications, and program coordination. Funds will help GCAC build from its first year of formation into a sustainable public resource for artists, youth, educators, families, and community partners.

Informed by listening sessions in Willows, Hamilton City, Elk Creek and Orland, GCAC will prioritize bilingual outreach, youth engagement, family-friendly programming, public art, artist visibility, partnerships with schools and civic organizations, and creative opportunities for historically under-resourced rural communities. This support will enable GCAC to move from mentorship into full State-Local Partner service—rooted in Glenn County leadership, relationships, and community priorities.

Organization Summary

Glenn County Arts & Culture provides emerging countywide arts leadership, coordination, networking, communications, and direct community engagement for Glenn County. Its core service is to build the infrastructure through which artists, youth, educators, families, civic partners, and cultural leaders can connect, share resources, and develop programs that reflect local priorities.

Regular listening sessions inform programs and services and identify high priority services for youth, public art, bilingual outreach, family-friendly festivals, adult creative learning, artist visibility, school partnerships, and arts as a tool for healing, pride, and community connection.

GCAC shares information, invites participation, collects community input, and promotes membership and artist engagement as the organization develops. It connects local creatives to its Upstate California Artist Directory, providing an immediate visibility tool for artists who might otherwise lack access to professional networks.

GCAC implements Poetry Out Loud as a countywide youth arts program and is exploring school-based and community-based arts activities connected to murals, music, dance, storytelling, cultural celebrations, and creative leadership.

As a new agency, GCAC does not seek to own all programming. Its role is to convene, promote, connect, advocate, document, and help partners open doors to arts participation across Glenn County. Over time, these services will expand to include professional development, a community arts calendar, public art partnerships, and small-scale artist support as funding allows.
