With support from the California Arts Council, GenRyu Arts will offer free music and dance classes to senior citizens and preschool children within San Francisco who are constituents of the Mission YMCA and Chinatown YMCA. We will partner with Dholrhythms Dance Company to offer traditional music and dance classes and share our respective traditional Indian and Japanese culture with constituents who have little or no exposure to our cultures. Through the Let’s Dance project, we hope to create unifying moments for residents of different communities and ethnicities, embracing our diversity.
Serving the community since 1995, GenRyu Arts has served over 1,500,000 people from the Asian American and multiracial community of the San Francisco Bay Area through:
-Performances at public events, festivals, and parades by its professional ensemble featuring traditional works and contemporary interdisciplinary collaborations
– A Japantown-based Taiko drumming and Odori dance school.
-Hosting Japanese Holiday celebrations to preserve cultural heritage.
