Dorland’s staff provides 1- to 6-week creative residencies annually for over 150 local, regional, and world artists, established and emerging, in writing, visual arts, and music. Five independent cottages with spectacular views are available for resident artists, with formal and informal opportunities for the residents to gather and socialize as they see fit during their stay. Two of the cottages are equipped with pianos (Steinway and Kimball).

Dorland’s ongoing efforts to increase diversity in its artist residency program, and provide financial assistance to emerging artists in need, include our Barbara Residency Fellowship (BRF) fund. We are also collaborating with regional university graduate programs in the arts, which annually select a deserving student candidate for a two-week residency, with various cost sharing arrangements. Participating institutions include the CalArts School of Music, the MFA Writing Program at University of California Riverside, and Chapman University.

Dorland manages critical groundskeeping, both for fire protection and community nature trail system maintenance.

We operate and maintain our fully accessible Community Art Center, serving an average of 65 people/month with art exhibitions, free workshops, collaborative gatherings, and nature walks. The Center also provides a visual arts studio space for use by resident artists. And it increases Dorland’s ability to promote and expand the Associate Artist program and its activities within the local community (530,000+ population of adjacent Temecula-Murrieta-Menifee urban area).
