With support from the California Arts Council, CHURCH OF CLOWN will sustain core operations and deliver community-centered arts programming from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, from our home in Visitacion Valley, a historically underserved San Francisco neighborhood. Gentrification and rising costs have shuttered 15 San Francisco theatres since 2020. CoC remains a venue, school, laboratory, and community space striving to keep Bay Area artists learning, working, and rooted here. We present clown, mime, dance, circus arts, and theatre through two annual festivals, weekly classes, workshops, year-round original productions, a Circus program for Seniors, and free community events. CAC funds of $30,000 will support partial salaries for our Executive Director and Technical Director, our Programs Coordinator, and paid performance stipends for BIPOC artists and producer for the Only Skin Deep Festival, and facility costs.
