With support from the California Arts Council, Choral Arts Initiative will sustain and expand its year-round operations that remove barriers to participation in new choral music and advance equitable career pathways for living composers and professional singers. Funds will support core operational expenses, including artist compensation, rehearsal and performance costs, and administrative infrastructure that enables accessible, high-quality programming. CAI commissions and performs new works, provides paid professional opportunities for artists, and operates the PREMIERE|Project Festival, a national incubator addressing the gap between training and sustainable artistic careers. Through these integrated activities, CAI serves diverse artists and audiences locally and nationally, increasing access to participation, elevating underrepresented creative voices, and strengthening California’s arts workforce and cultural ecosystem.
Collaboration with Composers & Community: Working with community stakeholders such as K-12 school districts, churches, community centers, and other arts organizations to generate opportunities for young people to create using music as a catalyst. With a focus on Orange County community, we have still welcomed schools from as far north as Seattle, WA and as far east as Orlando, FL.
Creating Opportunities: We know that the first barrier for recent college graduate students in music/composition is initial opportunity. We spend extensive time and resources discovering and identifying these individuals to provide opportunity through workshops, professional development, commissions, or premieres.
Live Performances: This is where our audience can see and hear our Mission come to life–bringing world-class performances of new music created by a diverse spectrum of living composers who are craving opportunity.
