Project Description
Support from the California Arts Council will allow the Children’s Art Studio Richmond (CASR) to expand program capacity and meet demonstrated community demand. In addition to expanding core programming, this funding will transition CASR’s successful “Pop-Up” workshops into a consistent, permanent-site model for children ages 2–12, directly addressing persistent waitlists. Specifically, resources will support the launch of the Hero Teddy pilot, a trauma-informed collaboration with the Richmond PD designed to foster emotional resilience in children during crises. Funding will facilitate the development of the “Studio for All” in-home model, removing transportation barriers for families. By funding a bilingual educator and specialized materials, CASR will strengthen its “Process-to-Process” curriculum,
ensuring that over 80% of its Spanish-speaking households receive high-quality, culturally grounded arts education.
Organization Summary
The Children’s Art Studio Richmond / Taller de Arte Para Niños Richmond provides free art classes in both English and Spanish to children aged 2 – 5 in the Richmond, CA community, regardless of their background or resources. This program is designed to support each individual child to achieve their highest creative potential, while teaching children basic art-making techniques. We emphasize the importance of cooperation and self-help, self- discipline, and assuming responsibility for the use of these materials. Through this approach, we foster a sense of exploration, creativity, and self- expression in each child.
