Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, Calistoga Theater Company (UpStage Napa Valley) will bring high-quality theater to the rural communities of northern Napa Valley. Our season includes onstage productions, an annual festival showcasing short plays by local authors, free library readings, and actors’ workshops, and is complemented by engagement with local high school and college students. Grant funds will be used to support our season, including expenses for royalties, technical equipment, props, performance and rehearsal space rental; to hire additional technical staff and stagehands; and to support and expand outreach, educational and evaluation activities.
Organization Summary
UpStage Napa Valley is a small but successful community theater company bringing high-quality productions to the small towns of northern Napa County. Primarily run and operated by volunteers, our core programs include our annual playwright festival, winter acting workshops for adults and high school youth, and spring productions. Held annually in the fall, the PlayFest offers a unique opportunity for local authors to bring their work to the stage in their own community, while our winter acting workshops offer important community engagement opportunities to Napa teens and adults.
