Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, BIG IDEA THEATRE will use grant funds to cover 12 months of rent and utilities for our performance and rehearsal space. This crucial funding will allow us to direct program profits and donations towards three main areas we have identified. First, much-needed maintenance of and upgrades to our facilities, including a revamp of our semi-outdoor communal space. Second, compensation and wages for our management team and artists. Finally, expansion of accessibility projects like assistive listening devices, captioning services, and ASL interpretation. By securing stable operational costs, we can focus on continuing to provide high-quality programming and further invest in the artists and community we serve.

Organization Summary

Big Idea Theatre was formed in 2003 by a small group of founding members in Roseville. In 2007, the company was transformed under new management and in a new location. Since 2008, BIT has been situated at 1616 Del Paso Boulevard in Sacramento. We produce six full-length main stage theatrical productions per year. The productions range from comedy to drama, and from classic to modern. We strive to provide our audiences with a wide-array of plays each year. Each of the productions are presented over the course of 4 weeks, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, and 2 Sunday matinees. In a single year, BIT captivates audiences for 105 performances.
