With support from the California Arts Council, BAKERSFIELD COMMUNITY THEATRE (BCT) will expand the number of participants and opportunities for young people in our free Youth Theatre Program.
BCT’s Youth Theatre was founded in 1969 to provide free theatre performance training for teenagers. Over time, we expanded our program to include children as young as six years old. Over the years, other organizations began offering pay-to-play youth programs, and today there are six organizations offering youth workshops at a cost of up to $550 per child. BCT remains the only youth program that is completely free to all students, a commitment that has been reviewed and ratified over many decades by the BCT Board of Directors. BCT is committed to continuing this free program to provide this essential training to our most vulnerable children.
