With support from the California Arts Council, ACME Performance Group Inc, DBA Moving Arts, will continue and grow all of our artistic programs:
1. Producing world premiere plays by Los Angeles-based playwrights on our mainstage.
2. Continuing MADLab, our award-winning, free new play development program, now in its 13th season. MADLab has fostered new works by numerous LA playwrights, including Marlowe Wyatt, Sarah Cho, and Matthew Paul Olmos.
3. Expanding our award-winning new program, Moving Arts Presents. This program debuted in 2025, and enables us to partner with other organizations and artists we love, to present their most exciting current work to our audience, and create opportunities for dialogue with our community.
All of these programs will provide paid employment for artists, and connection for audiences seeking artistic engagement with their community.
We are a small nonprofit theatre in Los Angeles, focusing on the premiere of new plays by Los Angeles-based playwrights. We produce 2 – 3 mainstage productions per year, oftentimes in non-traditional spaces, such as our critically acclaimed and audience hit, The Car Plays.
Our award-winning new play development program, MADLab, is another key component of our programming. In MADLab, playwrights are mentored as they develop their concepts into plays over the course of 9 months. Our readings are presented to the public free of charge. Many plays developed in MADLab have gone on to have world premieres at Moving Arts or other noteworthy theatres throughout the country, including Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, and the Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles.
In 2025, we added a new program, Moving Arts Presents. This is a curated slate of programming that brings artists we love to perform works that will generate discussion with our community.
Recently, we were honored to receive multiple awards for our last season, including Best Play and Best Solo Performance from the LA Drama Critics Circle, and Best Ensemble and Distinguished Artistic Direction for Artistic Director Darin Anthony from STAGERAW.
