Bob Baker Marionette Theater (BBMT) will offer 23 low- and no-cost field trips for Title I schools in the California Healthy Places Index’s lower quartiles, pairing our marionette performances with a post-show social-emotional workshop facilitated by BBMT’s puppeteers. Workshops align with California T-SEL Competencies and extend into the classroom through an existing CAC-supported standards-aligned K–5 take-home curriculum. CAC funds will sustain the subsidized field trip program for majority Title I schools by providing 20 field trips ($10 subsidy per child @80 children each), broaden reach by adding three fully subsidized trips ($25 per child) with dedicated outreach and coordination in identified HPI Q1 service gaps, and improve its quality by investing $2,500 in professional development to advance our puppeteers as teaching artists, and $373 to design and implement an observation rubric to evaluate student learning.
Our annual programming focuses on performances, educational workshops and cultural events. We inspire and educate over 100,000 intergenerational Angelenos annually through world-class puppetry performances in-theater, touring shows, community and civic events, field trips and educational workshops in collaboration with artist partners, our annual free community festival, Bob Baker Day, traveling exhibitions, and special musical and performance events with cultural partners.
