With support from the California Arts Council, Ventura County Ballet will produce a Sensory Friendly Performance of The Nutcracker in December 2026 in Oxnard, CA. Individuals with sensory processing challenges and other cognitive, emotional and physical differences are often not comfortable or welcome at live performances. This robs them of the enjoyment and benefits. Ventura County Ballet’s sensory friendly performance will be a welcoming, inclusive environment for those with autism and other sensory processing, physical, cognitive or emotional challenges.. It will gives these youth and their families the opportunity to participate in activities they could otherwise not experience. Low lights stay on in the theater, music is played more quietly, communication devices and headphones are welcome and guests can move about and vocalize. If someone wants to take a break, a quiet area is available.
Ventura County Ballet presents fully staged dance programs in theaters and interactive educational outreach programs in diverse community settings including schools, youth organizations, community centers, senior citizen centers, parks, libraries, hospitals, shopping centers, and more. We provide supplemental materials to teachers to use with their students before and after attending a Ventura County Ballet performance. teachers We also provide training and performing opportunities for aspiring preprofessional dancers as well as exposure for emerging musicians, choreographers and composers of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
