With support from the California Arts Council, SAFE BLACK SPACE will sustain staffing and operations to continue culturally grounded arts, healing, and wellness programming for historically under-resourced Sacramento County communities.
SAFE BLACK SPACE is a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit with eight years of African diasporic arts and wellness programming, including the Kwanzaa Kutoa Celebration, drumming, healing circles, book clubs, and visual/spoken word events.
Programs create trusted spaces for cultural expression, healing, and community connection in Sacramento neighborhoods including Oak Park and Del Paso Heights, both identified as lower-resource areas in the California Healthy Places Index.
This is our first CAC grant.
The requested $30,000 will support staff salaries, ensuring program continuity, stability, and year-round service. Funding will allow SAFE BLACK SPACE to maintain accessible in-person and virtual programming that strengthens cultural identity and fosters creative expression.
Safe Black Space implements cultural and community-driven healing and connection activities.
