Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, HMONG YOUTH AND PARENTS UNITED will support the cultural arts development of youth ages 12–25 in Sacramento’s Del Paso Heights and North Sacramento communities through a culturally responsive Youth Mentorship Circle. The program will immerse participants in Hmong traditional arts—such as Paj Ntaub textile design, Paj Huam spoken‑word poetry, and performance‑based storytelling—while introducing complementary visual and digital art practices. Through guided instruction and intergenerational knowledge‑sharing with Hmong artists and elders, youth will strengthen their self‑identities, deepen their connections to Hmong history, language, and cultural practices, and cultivate pride in their heritage. By integrating contemporary tools with Hmong cultural artforms, the program will provide innovative pathways for youth to reinterpret Hmong traditions, culminating in a collaboratively created interactive cultural arts journal that will be shared with the broader community.

Cultural Arts Program is a way to preserve the Hmong arts, language, and culture by providing the community an opportunity to learn, appreciate, participate, and practice Hmong cultural arts through classes and events.
