The Tehachapi Community Orchestra Foundation raises funds to provide five symphonic concerts each season, October through June, in Tehachapi, California. These concerts are free of charge to the public in order to make them accessible to diverse audiences of all ages, especially our low-income households and seniors. The Foundation covers the Orchestra’s concert expenses, which include music director’s salary, rehearsal and concert venue fees, contractor’s fee, professional musician fees, music rental or purchase costs, advertising fees, and insurance fees. The Foundation also funds and accompanist for the Tehachapi Symphonic Chorus, which performs at least one annual concert with the Orchestra. These two musical groups provide opportunities for local adult and young musicians to perform original repertoire alongside professional musicians. The Foundation provides annual scholarship opportunities for young artists through its Tehachapi Symphony Young Artist Competition, which awards scholarships to musicians ages 25 and under and gives them a featured soloist opportunity with the orchestra. We work with our local schools–junior high school, high school, college, and university–to provide opportunities for collaborative performance and concert attendance. Our orchestra musicians provide music lessons to our local youth. We seek to engage a broad range of our community as audience members, business sponsors, volunteers, and performing artists.
