With support from the California Arts Council, Benkadi, a project fo Community Partners will continue to provide its African drums, dance and culture program to under-resourced schools and underserved communities. Founded to promote academic growth and cultural diversity through culturally relevant arts programming, Benkadi prioritizes equity by removing barriers to access to arts. Benkadi delivers a complete program of expert instruction, well maintained authentic instruments in quantity, a unique curriculum and suite of teaching aides.
Grant proceeds will support teaching artists’ salaries and administrative costs essential for delivering instruction including development of additional curriculum materials, instrument maintenance, art supplies and performance costumes. By providing these high-quality programs in school at no cost to families, Benkadi bridges the gap in art education and access to arts in general for historically disadvantaged youth.
Benkadi brings West African drum, dance and culture programs to schools of economic and social need in Los Angeles County and provides experiential events and learning opportunities to the wider community. Benkadi is fiscally sponsored by Community Partners.
