Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, Ballet Folklórico del Pacífico/Pacífico Dance Company will strengthen the 34-year cultural legacy of Pacífico as a home for Mexican folklórico dance, intergenerational learning, cultural identity, and community connection in California. Funds will support teaching artist and administrative capacity, rehearsal and program space, costume maintenance, outreach, impact documentation, and improved accessibility through affordable participation, bilingual communication, inclusive rehearsal practices, and clearer outreach for participants, families, and audiences. Building on growth supported by prior CAC Cultural Pathways funding, Pacífico will expand affordable access to folklórico education and intergenerational cultural transmission. Today’s company reflects the community it serves: college students, recent graduates, young parents, second-generation dancers, educators, health and social service professionals, and women culture bearers who use folklórico as a source of identity, leadership, belonging, and community connection.
Organization Summary
Founded in 1992, the Los Angeles-based Pacífico Dance Company has been thrilling audiences with its unique blend of modern and traditional dance for nearly twenty years. Under the guidance of Adriana Astorga-Gainey, general and artistic director, the company has evolved and created its own unique style, costume designs, music, and choreography. Pacifico Dance Academy also provides training of the highest standards in traditional Mexican dance to children and teens. Our local programs emphasize the unique zapateado technique and music necessary to create authentic Mexican folk dance. We also provide quality ballet and yoga training to help students develop proper body alignment to adapt to all dance styles.
Pacifico Dance Company is proud to serve as a 501 (C)(3) organization dedicated to the performance and preservation of traditional Mexican dance through the reconstruction of choreography and dance training.
